What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue our unit on becoming an AVID Reader! This week we are continuing our focus on reading POETRY! 

In Writer's Workshop we will learn how to write to share our thoughts and opinions!  
We are using our brand new writing journals and everyone is doing great! Keep it up! 

Face to face learners please bring your red book bags back on Monday, 3/29, so you can get new books! Virtual learners you should have 3 more books in your bags to focus on and read this week!

Math

In Math this week, we will be continuing to learn about 2D Shapes! We will become experts about the attributes of each 2D shape. We will also use those attributes to sort shapes. We will also recognize real-life examples of shapes.


Science

This week in Science we will be learning about plants! We will plant our lima bean seeds and make a paper green house to watch it grow!  As you walk outside and enjoy the warm weather look for some plants in nature!  What parts does the plant have? 


Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will learn about positional words:
over, under, above, beside etc..
We will use keynote to share our learning!
Also, continue practicing your address and be sure to send your letter!

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue our unit on becoming an AVID Reader! We will focus on reading Non-Fiction this week!  Avid Readers love Non-Fiction books too. 

VIRTUAL LEARNERS ONLY: We will NOT return book bag books and get new ones until after spring break. You will keep the books you have for the week of March 1st and the week of March 8th. During the week of March 8th I will cancel our Language Arts zoom meetings and set up a time to individually meet with Virtual Learners to Assess their reading skills.

Face to Face Learners ONLY:  your RED Book Bags will go home again after spring break! If you still have one at home please return it so I can empty it out and quarantine the books! 

In Writer's Workshop we will practice "Once Upon A Time ...." writing just for fun!

Math

In Math this week, we will be finishing our unit on Money! We will continue to review the different types of coins in our American money system. We will know how to recognize each coin and what it's value is. We will talk about ways we can sort our money.

There will not be any Math Zoom lessons this week. Miss Rice will be setting up individual Zoom assessment times with virtual learners throughout the week to assess all of your amazing learning over the last nine weeks!! 


Science

In Science this week, we are going to be discussing Living vs. Non-Living objects and how living things require resources to survive and non-living things do not. This week we will focus on living animals and their basic needs! 


Social Studies

Have you ever been to Disney World?  Well here is your chance ....... Put on your Mouseketeer ears and seat belts and  join our VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP to WALT DISNEY WORLD all next week!!  We will have an opportunity to visit all the parks and rides.  Here is your Boarding Pass to join the FUN!

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue our unit on becoming an AVID Reader! We will learn and talk about how AVID Readers LOVE Reading books! We will learn about and talk about fun things we can do with books too!!! Everyone is doing such a great job reading!

Face to Face Learners return your RED Book Bags on Tuesday 2/16 to get new books!
Virtual Learners bring your 6 books back and pick up 6 new books on Tuesday, February 16th at the front door of the school in the pick up bins!


In Writer's Workshop we will continue our unit on "How TO...." writing! Everyone is doing a great job!!!!

Math

In Math this week, we will be reviewing our AWESOME Addition skills! We will review the different strategies we use to solve addition problems. We will also look at solving story problems with addition. 


Science

In Science this week, we are going to be reviewing all of the  Earth Materials we have learned about. We will review rocks, soil, and water, and how these Earth materials are useful. We will show our knowledge by completing a writing assignment about all of the Earth Materials we have  learned about! 


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will learn about Geography! We will introduce Maps Skills!We will start this unit by focusing on  areas we know (maps of our room, houses, school, etc.)  We will also learn all about the symbols on Maps!

We are all becoming such good readers!


Face to Face Learners return your RED Book Bags on Monday 2/8 to get new books!
Virtual Learners bring your 6 books back and pick up 6 new books on Tuesday, February 16th at the front door of the school in the pick up bins!

In Math this week, we will be learning all about composing and decomposing teen numbers! We will learn that teen numbers are all made of a group of ten. We will also do some fun Math Valentine's activities! 



Science

In Science this week, we are learning about natural resources. We will continue our focus on the natural resource of soil and how we use different types of soil for different things. We will discuss the properties of soil and how it is useful.  We have been very good pedologist!!!!  (ask your child what that word means!) 


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will do some fun Valentine activities! 
We are excited to celebrate in this way!

Instead of a Valentine's party this year, we have planned several fun Valentine's activities for the all of the learners to participate in on February 11th! Virtual learners can come by school anytime between 8:00 and 2:45 on February 10th to pick up a Valentine's supply bag! Please remember that we will not be able to pass out valentine's this year.

This week in Math we will celebrate the 100th Day of Kindergarten!  We have a variety of fun activities and we will celebrate 100 all week long! Yay! We LOVE Kindergarten! 


We are getting very close to the 100th Day of School!! We will celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten on Monday, February 1st. To help us with visualizing 100, please have your child put together a collection of 100 objects. This could be something as simple as 100 pieces of cereal, 100 marshmallows, 100 pennies, 100 legos, etc! 
Virtual learners, please have your bag of objects ready for our Math Zoom on February 2nd.
Face to Face learners, please bring your collection to school any day next week.

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will keep practicing our reading with focusing on SNAP Words, Sound Power, and checking our reading! 
Face to Face Learners please return your book bags for new books on Monday 1/25!
Virtual Learners you can read the three books you did not read last week this week! Keep practicing! 
Virtual Learners you will get information on a book swap next week! 

In Writer's Workshop we will continue to work on adding more to our writing and working hard in our journals. We will practice beginning our writing without using the words "I like..." We can do it! 
We will review ways that we can make our writing easy for others to read! 
Next week we will begin to write "How To...." stories!

Math

Our Kindergarten learners have done SO well understanding, reading, writing, and representing their teen numbers. So this week in Math, we will learn about comparing teen numbers. We will compare with pictures, objects, numbers, and sentences. We will also use our number lines as a tool to help us compare numbers.
