January 27th - January 31st

What We're Working On

Language Arts:

This week in Writer's Workshop we will work on adding "more" to our writing!
We are focusing on using our checklist to remember capital letters, spaces, and periods.

In Reader's Workshop we will continue to work on reading fluency! 
Don't be afraid to read your book bag books lots of times over the course of the week! 

In Phonics Workshop we are reviewing our single letter phonograms, adding the
"H Brother" phonograms (sh, th, ch, and wh) and hearing and recording sounds!
We will learn two more new SNAP Words:
"come" and "go." 
We are also starting some new literacy stations to help us wrap up our celebration of MLK Jr.
and the 100th day of School! We are going to write 100 Words! 

Book Bags are coming home again this week!! Yay!
Please read with your child at home and return books to school on Friday!
Keep up the great work!

Social Studies:

We will start a unit on traditions of our country and learn about some
famous presidents and Americans that have helped our country grow! 


Math:

In Math this week we will be CELEBRATING the 100th DAY OF SCHOOL! We will have several fun math stations to celebrate counting to 100, skip counting to 100, and ways to show 100! 






Science:

In Science we will be starting a unit all about Earth science. We will learn about Earth materials like soil, rocks, and water. We will learn how we these natural resources to help us each day. We will continue to focus on ROCKS this week. We will discuss the properties of rocks, how to sort and classify rocks, and the many ways we use rocks!

100th Day of School

We had so much fun celebrating the 100th Day of Kindergarten! Check out our cute kindergarteners singing a song they learned!





Kindergarten Field Trips

Our Kindergarteners will be taking TWO Field Trips this spring! On March 3rd we will be going to the Willowbend Theatre to see a performance of Peter Rabbit. On April 9th we will be going to the Coppell Bio Diversity Center and Life Safety Park. More information about these trips is coming home in your child's folder! 
Please send in money ($16 covers both trips) and permission slip as soon as possible! Information about chaperoning the field trip is included in the information coming home!
Please return all forms and money by: February 13th! Thank you! 






Spring Creek Barbecue Night

Don't worry about cooking on Tuesday night! Come have dinner at Spring Creek Barbecue - 20% of all proceeds will go to TCE! Mrs. Brehm will be there from 5:00-5:30 and Miss Rice will be there from 5:30 to 6:00 - but feel free to come ANY time!!

What We're Working On:


Language Arts:

reading familiar books over and over again! Book bag books help with building fluency too!
Don't be afraid to read your book bag books lots of times over the course of the week!

We are discussing MLK Jr. this week and his contributions to our country!
We will discuss the importance of using our words for good! 



Math:

In Math this week we will be learning about ordering and comparing our teen numbers (11-20!) We will play games, do stations, and fun activities to become experts on these tricky teen numbers!
We are also getting ready to celebrate the 100th day of school on January 27th - more information to come on that!!



Science:

In Science we will be starting a unit all about Earth science. We will learn about Earth materials like soil, rocks, and water. We will learn how we these natural resources to help us each day. We will focus on ROCKS this week. We will discuss the properties of rocks, how to sort and classify rocks, and the many ways we use rocks!

Important Announcements:

100th Day of School

We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on January 27th! We are so excited to celebrate this special occasion! We will have several fun 100th Day stations all day long- and even a special 100th day snack! We are asking that each kindergartner bring in their own collection of 100 to share on our Wall of 100. Notes about this went home earlier in the week, so please e-mail your child's teacher if you need one.

Please return the collections on or before Monday January 27th! 
Also, your child is welcome to wear any special 100th Day shirts or hats!

own homes and families!
