March 1st - 5th

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue our unit on becoming an AVID Reader! We will learn and talk about how AVID Readers LOVE Reading books! We will learn about and talk about fun things we can do with books too!!! Everyone is doing such a great job reading!

VIRTUAL LEARNERS ONLY: We will NOT return book bag books and get new ones until after spring break.  You will keep the books you have for the week of March 1st and the week of March 8th.  During the week of March 8th I will cancel our Language Arts zoom meetings and set up a time to individually meet with Virtual Learners to Assess their reading skills. 

Face to Face Learners return your RED Book Bags on Monday,  March 1st  to get new books for the week.  I will assess your child's reading skills in class. 

In Writer's Workshop we will finish up our unit on "How TO...." writing! Everyone is doing a great job!!!!
This week we will practice adding more details! I have loved reading what everyone knows how to do!

Library Day

Face to Face learners, please return books on Monday, March 1st in order to check out a new book.

Math

In Math this week, we will be starting a new unit all about MONEY! We will learn about the different types of coins in our American money system. We will learn about how to recognize each coin and what it's value is.



Science

In Science this week, we are going to be discussing Living vs. Non-Living objects and how living things require resources to survive and non-living things do not.  This week we will focus on living animals and the things they need to survive.  


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will continue our unit on  Geography! We will continue Maps Skills!
We will learn about our community and the places in it.  We will discuss map locations, globes, and map keys to compare locations.  
HOMEWORK:  Please practice with your child to learn their address! They will need to know their house number, street name, city, and state! Yay!

We will have another round of Kindergarten supply pick up on March 1st. This is for Math supplies and a special treat bag from our Zoom with Coppell Dentistry of Kids.

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will start a new unit on becoming an AVID Reader! We will learn and talk about how AVID Readers LOVE Reading books!  Don't forget to come pick up your new books and return your old ones on Tuesday, February 16th.  

Face to Face Learners return your RED Book Bags on Tuesday 2/16 to get new books!
Virtual Learners bring your 6 books back and pick up 6 new books on Tuesday, February 16th at the front door of the school in the pick up bins!


In Writer's Workshop we will continue our unit on "How TO...." writing! Everyone is doing a great job!!!! 
We will also get 2 new SNAP Words!!! Keep practicing your SNAP Words! You are doing great!

Math

In Math this week, we will be reviewing our AWESOME Addition skills! We will review the different strategies we use to solve addition problems. We will also look at solving story problems with addition. 


Science

In Science this week, we are going to be reviewing all of the  Earth Materials we have learned about. We will review rocks, soil, and water, and how these Earth materials are useful. We will show our knowledge by completing a writing assignment about all of the Earth Materials we have  learned about! 


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will learn about Geography! We will introduce Maps Skills!We will start this unit by focusing on  areas we know (maps of our room, houses, school, etc.)  We will also learn all about the symbols on Maps!

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will wrap up on our unit on Bigger Books, Bigger Reading Muscles! We will learn how to take all of our super powers and SUPER SIZE them or make them extra strong! 
We are all becoming such good readers!

Virtual Learners bring your 6 books back and pick up 6 new books on Tuesday, February 16th at the front door of the school in the pick up bins! 


In Writer's Workshop we will continue our unit on "How TO...." writing!  Everyone is doing a great job!!!!  This is a fun unit where the kids enjoy sharing and teaching others all the things they know how to do!

Math

In Math this week, we will be learning all about composing and decomposing teen numbers! We will learn that teen numbers are all made of a group of ten. We will also do some fun Math Valentine's activities! 



Science

In Science this week, we are learning about natural resources. We will continue our focus on the natural resource of soil and how we use different types of soil for different things. We will discuss the properties of soil and how it is useful.  We have been very good pedologist!!!!  (ask your child what that word means!) 


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will do some fun Valentine activities! 
We are excited to celebrate in this way!

Valentine's Party Update

Instead of a Valentine's party this year, we have planned several fun Valentine's activities for the all of the learners to participate in on February 11th! Virtual learners can come by school anytime between 8:00 and 2:45 on February 10th to pick up a Valentine's supply bag! Please remember that we will not be able to pass out valentine's this year.
