Reading Rainbow BINGO

Last week a Red Bingo card was sent home. Each time your child turns in the completed colored card (Books they read), they earn a jibbitz bracelet and a charm to add to the bracelet. In May, if your child has completed all Rainbow colored cards, they will get an INVITE to attend a SPECIAL PARTY!

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
We will continue to practice writing two sentences in our journal! We will keep practicing how to use capital letters, spaces between words, and ending punctuation.  We are working hard to get all of our letters similar in size and sitting on line.   

Phonics:
We will learn how to use and read our ABC Chart! This ABC Chart will help us with letter names and sounds. It will be a great resource for reading and writing!


Readers Workshop:
We will keep working on our unit Readers Can Read.... We will discuss the different things we can read from in Reader's Workshop (book bag books, SNAP Word Cards, ABC Chart, RaZZ Kids). We will learn and set expectations for personal reading and partner reading.




Math

In Math this week, we will continue diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on comparing numbers to 10. We will compare number, pictures, and amounts up to 10. We will also be able to identify the number that is 1 more and 1 less than a given number. 



Science

Next week we will be learning about magnets and how they attract and repel.  We will demonstrate these forces though hands on activities such as: 
How many objects the magnet can pick up and why?
What objects around the room are magnetic?
We will also go on a magnet scavenger hunt! 

Scientist of the Week:
I am looking forward to our Scientist of the Week! All students will get an opportunity to share an experiment with their class throughout the year. I will send home information with the "Scientist" the Friday before the experiment is due.  Here are our scientist this week:

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will be learn how to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. We will read the "The Flag We Love" and think about where we see the USA and Texas Flag.  This is how we demonstrate our patriotism.

This upcoming week, we will be celebrating being healthy and drug-free during Red Ribbon Week! Please see the graphic below for the fun ways we are dressing up and celebrating! On Friday, please make sure your child's story book character is appropriate :)

St. Ann's Thanksgiving Basket

Every year St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Coppell provides Thanksgiving baskets with supplies to cook a turkey a dinner to those in need. If you could benefit from this assistance, please click on the link below and fill out the Google form as accurately as possible. By completing this form you understand this information will be shared with St. Ann’s Catholic Church for distribution of your basket. Please fill out this form no later than October 25th, 2021. StopIT

Coppell ISD has implemented STOPit, an anonymous reporting app, for learners to use. The tips are delivered to campus administrators. Below is the video that will play on our KTEX school announcements next week in order to share it with our kids. Educators are also reminding learners of the people on campus that are here to support them including educators, counselor, and administrators.

We will practice these skills with some extra fun and spoooooky Math activities! 



Science

Pumpkins, Bats, and Spiders, OH MY!!  We have a fun and exciting week planned for science.   We will start the week with rolling pumpkins on home made ramps and outdoor slides (force and motion). We will read "Roll Away Pumpkin," by Juna Wonders and see how the pumpkins rolled in the story and compare how fast, slow, and far our pumpkins rolled.  We will also learn the lifecycles of a pumpkin, bat and a spider! 

Scientist of the Week:

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will be talking about pumpkins.  We will create a "ballot" showing different faces to carve on a pumpkin. We will hold an election, and explain that everyones vote counts once in this decision.  The winning design will be carved into our Kindergarten pumpkin.  We will write about pumpkins and describe what they look like and how they compare in size!

We're two weeks away from our TCE Fun Run Fundraiser! Our goal is to raise $15,000 for PTO funds that support classroom grants and school resources. Our fundraising event will be a "fun run" during the school day on October 21st. All families get to participate in the TCE Fun Run event day, regardless of financial participation. Registration is officially open on mybooster.com.

1. Register your child(ren) on mybooster.com. It is free and takes 30 seconds!
*We have an incentive for each classroom that gets all students registered by October 13th!*

2. Share with 5 family/friends using the share tools on mybooster.com (Facebook, Text Message, or Email). Students will earn rewards just for sharing from mybooster.com.

3. Give a donation if you are able to give. You can pledge money per lap or just a flat donation--every bit makes a difference!

A few things to know about the fundraiser:
All families can support our school either by donating, sharing on funrun.com, or both.
Students can receive rewards when parents share from mybooster.com
All students get to participate in the TCE Fun Run event day, regardless of financial participation.

Phonics: We will learn how to use and read our ABC Chart! This ABC Chart will help us with letter names and sounds. It will be a great resource for reading and writing!

Readers Workshop:  We will read and listen to books about fall! We will practice reading and re-reading to learn more! 



Math

In Math this week, we will begin diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on representing our numbers to10. This means being able to show our numbers in different ways like drawing pictures, using counters,  using a ten frame,  tally marks, and so much more! 


Science

This week we will continue with Movement and Location by comparing object's location to another location through various Force and Motion stations (hands on activities). We will have so much fun exploring, predicting, and investigating Physical Science!


Scientist of the Week: I am looking forward to our "Scientist of the Week'. All students will get an opportunity to share an experiment with their class throughout the year. I will send home information with the "Scientist" the Friday before the experiment is due. Can't wait to see your Little Scientist!!
 


Social Studies

Learners will celebrate National Patriotic holidays such as Veteran's Day, Independence Day, Presidents Day, etc. by associating how we celebrate with parades and Fireworks in America. We will have our own parade and create a fun and easy Sparkler (paper) to show how we can celebrate Patriotic holidays.

Important Information

Picture Day/Picture Retakes - October 13th

The Lifetouch photographers are returning Wednesday, October 13th to take photos of all learners returning face-to-face that were virtual. These are the photos that will be in the Town Center yearbook, so every child will have their photo taken even if they are not purchasing a picture package. We will send home picture order forms for our learners returning on October 12th. You are also able to order online at mylifetouch.com. Our school code is EVTP7CBJ2.

If any of our face-to-face learners would like picture retake, please make sure your child and their homeroom teacher know. We will include them on this day!

This year Kindergarten has an opportunity to participate in a reading challenge called the Rainbow Reading Bingo Challenge!  Please look in your child's green take home folder for more information! The kids are so excited about this and are ready to earn their reading rainbow bracelets!

In Writing Workshop this week we will continue writing a sentence in our journals! Our sentence will be an "I like...." sentence and we will illustrate a picture that matches our words. We will learn about how sentences begin with a capital letter, end with a period, and have spaces between words! We we will also get two new SNAP Words: "said" and "we."

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We are also learning about the difference between letters, words, and sentences. We are learning about how letters make up words and words make up sentences.

In Reading we will focus on how re-reading storybooks can help us to learn more!


Math

In Math this week, we will begin diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on subitizing and counting to 10. This means being able to instantly recognize a group of objects up  to 10. It also means that when given a group of counters, your child will be able to correctly count how many there are!  Here is a fun subiziting song to put your skills to the test:


Science

In Science this week, we will begin a new unit on 
"How Things Move"
We will learn about force and motion (push and pull) and discuss speed, directionality, etc.

In Reading Workshop we will begin a unit on Re-Reading to Learn More! 

Library Day is Monday! Bring your books back!

Math

In Math this week, we will continue our learning about comparing numbers! We will learn the words greater, less, and equal. We will be able to compare numbers, pictures, and objects! We will also be able to name numbers that are greater, less, and equal to a given number.


Science

In Science this week, we will learn about ENERGY. We will learn about heat, light, and sound energy. We will explore natural and manmade sources of each of these types of energy. This week we are focusing on LIGHT energy.


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will continue to learn about jobs in our homes, schools, and communities!
