What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will wrap up on our unit on Bigger Books, Bigger Reading Muscles! We will learn how to take all of our super powers and SUPER SIZE them or make them extra strong! 
We are all becoming such good readers!

Face to Face Learners return your RED Book Bags on Monday 2/1 to get new books!
Virtual Learners bring your 6 books back and pick up 6 new books on Monday 2/1 at the front door of the school in the pick up bins! 

In Writer's Workshop we will begin a new unit on "How TO...." writing!  This is a fun unit where the kids enjoy sharing and teaching others all the things they know how to do! 

Library Day 

Face to Face learners, please return books on Monday, February 1st  in order to check out a new book.

Math

This week in Math we will celebrate the 100th Day of Kindergarten!  We have a variety of fun activities and we will celebrate 100 all week long! Yay! We LOVE Kindergarten! 


We are getting very close to the 100th Day of School!! We will celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten on Monday, February 1st. To help us with visualizing 100, please have your child put together a collection of 100 objects. This could be something as simple as 100 pieces of cereal, 100 marshmallows, 100 pennies, 100 legos, etc! 
Virtual learners, please have your bag of objects ready for our Math Zoom on February 2nd.
Face to Face learners, please bring your collection to school any day next week.



Science

In Science this week, we are learning about natural resources. We will focus on the natural resource of soil and how we use different types of soil for different things.  We will discuss the properties of soil and continue our visits to the TCE Garden!  

Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will learn about Valentine's Day Around the World and how it is celebrated in different countries!

Valentine's Party Update

Our campus has made the decision to move our second party of the year to May instead of the usual February Valentine's Day Party. While our staff will still do some type of activity for the holiday, we will not have our usual full party or exchange paper valentines. We look forward to planning the end of the year party with our room moms.

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Reader's Workshop this week we will keep practicing our reading with focusing on SNAP Words, Sound Power, and checking our reading! 
Face to Face Learners please return your book bags for new books on Monday 1/25!
Virtual Learners you can read the three books you did not read last week this week! Keep practicing! 
Virtual Learners you will get information on a book swap next week! 

In Writer's Workshop we will continue to work on adding more to our writing and working hard in our journals. We will practice beginning our writing without using the words "I like..." We can do it! 
We will review ways that we can make our writing easy for others to read! 
Next week we will begin to write "How To...." stories!

Math

Our Kindergarten learners have done SO well understanding, reading, writing, and representing their teen numbers. So this week in Math, we will learn about comparing teen numbers. We will compare with pictures, objects, numbers, and sentences. We will also use our number lines as a tool to help us compare numbers.

We are also beginning to visit our very own TCE Garden!  Our face to face learners went out for a visit on Friday and we would love for our virtual students to come up and take a look at the TCE Garden too!

In Social Studies this week, we will discuss clothing and food from around the world! We will learn about the similarities and differences among all of us!

In math this week, we will be learning about and practicing representing our TEEN numbers! We will learn that numbers can be represented in ways like in ten frames, tally marks, pictures, words, number bonds, and so many more! 



Science:

In Science this week, we will be continuing our unit all about ROCKS! We will be rockin' geologists and learn all about the properties of rocks. We will also sort rocks according to their properties. 


Social Studies: 

In Social Studies this week, will be learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and other courageous people who changed the world!

Important Announcements:

MAP Testing

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, our learners will be taking the MAP test. Please make sure your child's iPad is updated and that you have run the diagnostics prior to these days. Click HERE for that link.

We will start the test both days at 8:30 am. We will get on Zoom (the link is in your child's Schoology calendar) to start the test all together. Please be sure your child is ready to start promptly at 8:30 on Wednesday and Thursday.

To allow your child plenty of time to focus on their MAP test, there will not be any content Zooms on Wednesday or Thursday. 


Supply Pick Up

On Tuesday, January 19th we will have supplies in the front of the school building for our virtual learners for the third nine weeks!  Please come up anytime during the day on the 19th and pick up:
 
ONE SUPPLY Bag (no names / all are the same)
One Leveled Reader Book Bag (these have your child's first name on them)

There are instructions in the leveled reader book bags for you and you can e.mail Mrs. Torti with any questions! 

The supplies will be in two crates next to the main entrance of the school! 
(This supply pick up is only for learners who have elected to stay virtual for the 3rd 9 weeks.)

What We Are Learning

Language Arts:

In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue our new unit on Reading Bigger Books and Growing Bigger Reading Muscles!  Everyone is doing great!  Be on the look out for some info take home readers (for face to face students and virtual students) to come soon!  

In Writer's Workshop we will continue to work on and edit our Can/Have/Are Snowman Writing! 
We will review ways that we can make our writing easy for others to read! 
In the next few weeks we will be learning how to write "How To...." stories! 

In Phonics we will introduce and discuss and learn about VOWELS! 

Library Day 

Face to Face Learners can return Library books on Monday January 11th and check out a new book!

In Science this week, we will be learning all about ROCKS! We will be rockin' geologists and learn all about the properties of rocks. We will also sort rocks according to their properties. Please see the note below from Mrs. Brehm about collecting rocks!




Social Studies: 

In Social Studies this week, we will be completing a social studies choice board all about character traits. Our learners will be able to choose a different activity each day to learn about character traits!
