Kindergarten News: August 29th- September 2nd

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Next week we will continue working on learning our friends’ names, classroom routines, and procedures. We are also switching classes each day! We practiced on Friday and it went GREAT!

Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will focus on learning how to write in and use our writing journals! We will learn two new sight words "I" and "like."  We are also going to be doing a book study on the "Black Lagoon" books, it is a cute series of picture books written by Mike Thaler.  We will have a special guest reader who works in our school come to read to us each day so we can get to know them and their role at TCE!

Math

Next week we will start our exploration by digging into the questions:
1.What is math?
2. Where do we see math in the world?
3. How do I use math every day?
4. Who uses math?
Please be sure to have your child watch the video before coming to school on Monday so they will feel comfortable contributing to the conversation of what math is!

*If you have a cool career that uses math, we would love to hear from you! We would love to work with you so that you can share how you use math in your career!
( You could come in, we could Skype, or you could simply send an email letting us know what you do and we can create a slide show of different careers submitted! )
Just email your child's math teacher and we will set it all up!

My Name is Lorri Brehm.  Welcome to Kindergarten!  I am so excited for this year to begin!  We have so many fun and great learning activities planned for Kindergarten.

Just a few things about me....

I have LOVED teaching Kindergarten and First Grade for the past 19 years.  I have been at Town Center for 16 years.  I am married to my high school sweetheart, and have two grown children, and two precious grandchildren!

My favorite things to do: Spending time with my children and my two grandchildren (they live in Arkansas), my husband and friends, and playing as much tennis as I can!

I have a daughter who attends Texas Tech and an Australian Shepherd who I adore!  When I'm not teaching, I love spending time boating and fishing at the lake.  I am excited to get to know each of you and see how much fun we are going to have learning and growing this year!

Meet Mrs. McKinney

Hi sweet kindergarten families! I am so excited to get the year started and have the opportunity to be able to get to know each child and your families! Below is a little about me!

This will be my sixth year to teach and I feel so lucky to be part of the TCE family! I graduated from Abilene Christian University (go wildcats!!) with a degree in Education in 2009. I have be so fortunate to be able to teach as a teacher of record in an ESL program in Beijing, China as a kindergarten teacher and then as a second grade teacher. I have taught kindergarten ever since I have been at TCE and have loved every second of it!

When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family and friends! I love to cook/bake, shop, decorate/redecorate my home, travel and go on walks around our neighborhood. Kevin and I had our first child this summer and we are over the moon in love! Our life has changed for the better and we love watching him grow before our eyes! I grew up in Pflugerville, Texas ( a small town outside of Austin) with my Mom, Dad and sister, Krystal.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me! I cannot wait to get to know all of the fun things about your child and your families!
