Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will be focusing on the writing process:
brainstorm, plan, write, revise, publish!
We are working on a few published pieces to show off at our spring open house! Our theme is
Kinder-Garden so we have been reading and writing about gardens!  Our writing has grown and bloomed so much this year! We can't wait to show you!

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will review our skills previously learned and practice building stamina in our reading.  We will try reading for longer amounts of time and working on different types of texts such as fiction, non-fiction, and even some poetry!

Phonics:
This week in phonics we will continue our focus on VOWEL Power. We will talk about the middle vowel sounds (short vowel sounds) in CVC words. We will practice hearing and recording sounds and identifying the correct vowel for each CVC word. We will also add to our list of SNAP words! I will send out a comprehensive list of all the words we have learned so far soon!

Math

In Math this week, we will be reviewing our strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems! We will focus mostly on subtraction this week. We will learn that we have many different "tools" in our math "toolbox" and we can use many different manipulatives, draw pictures, and even use a number line to solve problems. We will also begin exploring word problems and learn strategies for solving those! I'm so very proud of our Kindergarten problem solvers!!

Social Studies

For Social Studies the next few weeks, we will begin a new unit on Geography! We will learn how to locate places at school, home, and our community.
Look for "Get to Know Me" form in your child's green folder next week!  Please fill out form (5 Questions) and return to Mrs. Brehm by March 6th.  We will be creating a Class Book to share.
Can't wait to "Get to Know You".

Science

In Science, we will be reviewing Earth Materials (Rock, Soil, & Water).   We have learned how these Natural Resources help us in our daily lives, and in our environment.  We will be creating an Earth Materials Flip Book to share with you during Open House.

March 2nd - Spring Picture Day
March 6th - PTO Meeting at 6:00 in TCE Library

Valentine's Day

On Tuesday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentines Day with a class party from 2:00 to 3:00. Parents are welcome to attend, and we would love to have you! You will need to check into the front office before the party with your drivers license or ID.

Coats and Winter Wear

As the weather turns colder and students are needing coats for recess we would ask a few things:
Please put your child's name or initials in coats, hats, mittens, etc... These items get misplaced often and it is so helpful if there is a name inside so we can get it back to the correct friend!
Next, please practice with your child putting their winter coats / jackets on and zipping or buttoning them independently. While we are MORE than happy to help with the zipping and buttoning, etc... the more friends that can do it by themselves the more time we get out on the playground rather than getting zipped, buttoned, and dressed for the weather! We would so appreciate your help!

TCE Yearbook

Order your TCE Yearbook today! These are such a special way to remember your child's year in Kindergarten at TCE! We will also have a special day in the spring when the kid's can sign each other's yearbooks!
