December 17th - December 21st

What We're Working on This Week:

This week we will be having some holiday fun with a week focused on
GINGERBREAD!! 
We will be reading books by Jan Brett like "Gingerbread Baby" and "Gingerbread Friends." We will also read the books from the series "Gingerbread Man Loose At The ....."  
In Math we will be doing some fun gingerbread stations where we will practice all of the skills we have learned over the last few weeks.  

We are looking forward to a fun week before the winter break!

December 20th - Holiday Party at 2:00
(Parents are welcome to join us!)

December 21st - Early Release at 12:15

Six Flags Reading Logs: 


Before Thanksgiving break all the kindergarten students received an information letter and a book log
about our Six Flags Read to Succeed program! This is a fantastic program to help motivate children to read and listen to books and earn a reward in the process! Students that read (or listen) to stories for a minimum of 6 hours and record their book titles on the log will earn a free ticket to 6 Flags over Texas! The kids love getting their free ticket at the end of each school year! You can record ANY books that your child reads (book bag books), books that you read to them, or books that they read and listen to on Razz Kids!

Book Logs are due back in February but feel free to return as soon as you complete! 


Terrific Tiny Texans:

Each week we will be spotlighting a special TCE Tiny Texan from each class. This is someone who we've seen going above and beyond and doing a fabulous job in class! They will get to be our line leader for the week, and they will get to fill out a STAR STUDENT poster to share during family meetings. This weeks Texans are:

Yearbook

It's that time of year to purchase a yearbook for your child. Yearbook cost was not part of the Trailpass this year, so the only way to purchase is through balfour.com at a cost of $25.

You can also purchase an ad to appear in the yearbook to make this year extra special. Optional ads come in multiple sizes ranging from $15-$120.

We sold out last couple of years, so don't miss out! Yearbook sales end January 18, 2019.

Giving Tree

What: Town Center first graders are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need in Coppell. We will be donating the toys to the Coppell Lions Club. When you place your toy under the Christmas Tree, please sign your name on an ornament and hang it on the tree!

December 10th - 14th


What We're Working on This Week:

Language Arts

Last week our Superhero Super Reader taught us two new
Super Powers: Partner Power and Picture Power!  
So far we have learned: Pointer Power,  Re-Read Power, Partner Power, & Picture Power!
We have a few more super reading powers to learn!  We are SUPER READERS! 


We have learned 20 Word Wall Words so far!  Whoo hoo!!  We will go over these words this week and send home a list so you can practice them at home!  Keep up the great work!

We are doing an awesome job writing in our journals and have continued to discuss our
Writing Checklist:


This week we are going to learn about and use the writing process to write about SNOWMEN!
We will use our checklist to help us make sure our writing is awesome! 



Social Studies

This week we will continue our unit in Social Studies that focuses on our diverse cultures!
It is called Culture: How we Live and Celebrate!
We will kick off this unit by talking about several different winter holidays! 




Math

In Math this week, we will be exploring SUBTRACTION! We are so excited to learn several strategies for helping us take numbers apart and subtract! We will do many fun, hands-on stations to explore these strategies, too!


Science

This week, we will become experts about the different seasons. We will research about weather in each of the seasons and how the weather affects us. At the end of our research, we will create weather forecast videos to show all we have learned!

December 3rd - 7th

What We're Working on This Week:

Language Arts

Last week and this coming week we will continue to be visited by
Superhero Super Reader!!
Our Superhero Super Reader has been helping us use our reading super powers to become great readers!  We are loving practicing our reading super powers in readers workshop!
So far we have learned: Pointer Power and Re-Read Power!

We will also learn two new word wall words: "he" and "for"
After learning these two words we will have 20 Word Wall Words!  Whoo hoo!

We are doing an awesome job writing in our journals and have continued to discuss our

We are also reading some books that were written and illustrated by Jan Brett!  


Social Studies

This week we will start a new unit in Social Studies that focuses on our diverse cultures!

Right now we are becoming weather experts! We will be learning all about weather throughout the seasons. We will also be studying the patterns of day and night and the objects in the sky.

November 12th - November 16th

What We're Working on This Week:

Language Arts

This week we will review all the word wall words we have learned so far:
a, are, am, but, can, go, I, like, little, not, see, said, the, we, to, have

We will continue to work on writing two sentences in our journal and use
capital letters, finger spaces, periods, and WOW illustrations that match our words!
Everyone is working so hard on their writing and it is looking awesome!

We will also be continuing our Reading and Writing Workshops!  The kids are doing awesome and loving it!  We are so proud of them!

We will keep reading books about turkey's and Thanksgiving!



Social Studies

We will learn about the history of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims and Native Americans!  We will discuss the importance of this wonderful holiday and how it brings all Americans together!
We will celebrate with our feast on Friday!  Please join us if you'd like! 

Math

We will be continuing our learning all about comparing and ordering numbers! We will become experts about how to draw pictures or use a number line to order numbers. We will also be able to compare using the sentence stems:
___ is greater than ___

___ is less than ___
___ is equal to ___

We will also be doing some FUN Thanksgiving math activities!




Science

We will be exploring magnets this week! We will be completing many FUN hands-on activities to determine if objects are magnetic or not magnetic. We will learn about why magnets attract or repel certain objects. To extend your child's learning at home, have them search for magnet items around the house!

What We're Working on This Week:

Language Arts

This week we will learn two new word wall words: "to" and "have."
We will continue to work on writing two sentences in our journal and use
capital letters, finger spaces, periods, and good illustrations that match our words!

Also, please don't forget about using some of our digital resources at home too!  We have been showing them how to listen, read, and answer comprehension questions about their stories on Raz Kids!  Have them show you at home too1

We will read some books about turkey's and Thanksgiving!

This week we will learn about Veteran's Day and why Veteran's are so important to our country! We will learn about ways we can honor our Veteran's on Veteran's Day!

What We're Working on This Week:

Language Arts

This week we will focus on journal writing and good illustrations!  We will discuss and learn how to add details to our illustrations and make sure that our drawings help tell the story!

 Readers Workshop is going great!! We will continue to talk about different ways you can read a book (read the pictures, read the words, retell a familiar story) and keep working to build stamina in our reading! 

We will continue reading books about Pumpkins and Halloween just for fun!

We are continuing our unit called: Our Country, the Land We Love!
We will continue learning about our country, the United States of America! We will keep focusing on symbols of the USA!! We are having a great time learning these! 





Math and Science

In Math and Science this week, we are excited to be learning all about PUMPKINS! We will study their life cycles, learn the parts of a pumpkin, and do several fun engineering and math stations with pumpkins! Thank you so much to everyone who has brought it a miniature pumpkin for us to use! And..It's not too late to send one in!!
