Kindergarten News: March 28th- April 1

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Language Arts

We will be continue writing in our new journals! Our new journals have lines, so the kiddos will be working on a variety of skills during our journal time! Be watching on SeeSaw for a few examples!
This week we will be learning our new word wall words: "do" and "here". Continue to practice spelling and writing our work wall words to help in both reading and writing!

Also, Library Day will be on Monday this week due to STAAR testing in the library! Please send in library books on Monday! Thanks!

Book Bags came home this week with homework! Thank you to everyone who sent back the homework with your child! Remember that book bags will come home at the beginning of each week and then returned on Friday. (with the homework in the book bag)

Math

We will be wrapping up our measurement unit! We have learned so much about measuring length, weight and capacity! I am so impressed with how well the learners have been able to easily decide the multiple ways things can be measured!

We will be starting our studies on addition. We will be learning about different strategies as well as words to look for/ listen for to help us know that we are needing to add! Please remember that reflex math is a great tool to use at home for your child to work on their fact fluency. Please be sure to have your child do the work, because when they pass a level, they move onto a harder level. If your child becomes frustrated, you can always work on fact fluency with a paper and pencil. This way they can practice strategies learned in the classroom until they can see the patterns.

Science / Social Studies

In Science, we will be studying the life cycle of a Chick and Oviparous Animals. We had 15 eggs delivered on Tuesday.  They are in our incubator (keeping warm!).  We will have to wait 21 days for the chicks to hatch.  The web cam will be set up next week for you to watch from home.   During this time we will be participating in Science Stations by learning about Oviparous life cycles, researching on PK Life Science about chicks, creating a baby chick, and reading non-fiction books about chicks and eggs.

April 12th - Our eggs should be hatching - We will be setting up a web cam next week!! Be watching for our link.

In Social Studies, we will be working on Mapping Skills! This is a time that we will be learning all about maps and how we can use them! Some of the vocabulary and definitions we will be using are,  compass rose, map key, globe, cardinal directions, and map scales.   Our next Mind Mission challenge will be "Washington's Wonder" - Build a monument that is tall using straws, paper cups, paper, paper clips, rubber bands, and mailing labels.  It will be so much fun!
