Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will begin writing sentences in our journals!  We will talk about how sentences begin with a capital letter, have spaces between words, and end with punctuation. We will start with "I like......" sentences and work towards adding more!
We will also learn two new SNAP words! SNAP words are high frequency words that are found most commonly in English texts. We call them SNAP Words because we learn them so that we will know them in a SNAP!
This week we will learn the words: "see" (we didn't get to this one last week) and "a."

Reader's Workshop:
We have begun using the app Raz Kids or Kids A to Z in our reading practice!  This is a great app to help your child find and read books on their level!  I will send home the log in cards this week so you can try it out at home if you have not already!  Students are able to listen to the story and then practice reading the story independently.   As the progress the app will ask them comprehension question about the story too!
We will begin a new unit on rereading and looking closely at books to learn and notice more.  We will practice sounding more like a storyteller when we are reading and rereading some of our favorite stories!
We will also read some fun books about APPLES and FALL.

Phonics:
We will continue focusing on the common sounds that letters represent! We will also talk about and practice sorting letters, words,  and sentences.   We will discuss how letters make words and words make sentences.

Math

In Math this week, we will continue working on our numeracy skills! We will focus on comparing numbers! We will learn vocabulary words like greater, more, less, fewer, and equal. We will be able to compare numbers, pictures, and sets of objects! We will also use two new apps (Khan Academy Kid and Boom Cards) to help us practice our comparing skills!

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we will complete our unit on Jobs in Home, School, and Community by visiting (walking) the Police Station, Fire Station, and Cozby Public Library next Thursday and Friday. Cant wait!!

I am so excited to introduce Time for Kids magazine to all our Kinder learners. This is a "News of the Week" article or interview for tomorrow's leaders and global citizens. It is a fun way to experience what is happening in our world and around us!

Science

In Science next week, we will complete our unit on Properties of Objects. We will make observations, record our findings, and discuss how materials can be changed when heating and cooling occur. For examples, what happens to chocolate chips when they are placed in the heat (sun)? then in the freezer? What other objects can change due to heat or cold?

Restroom Breaks in Kindergarten

As the school year gets going we wanted to touch base on kindergarten friends and using the restroom! We know that using a public / school restroom can be an adjustment for some so we wanted to share our procedures with you.... Typically we take three whole class restroom breaks each day (one in the morning, one at 10:20 prior to lunch, and one in the afternoon), however your child can always ask to use the restroom independently and we will allow them to walk down to go. At times we might ask for them to wait for a moment until another student returns so as not to overwhelm the number of students down at the restroom together. Please encourage your child to ask the teacher if they need to go as well as having a conversation about asking before it becomes an emergency! We do our very best to meet everyones needs restroom and otherwise as soon as we possibly can. Please keep a clean change of clothes in your child's backpack in case an accident occurs. Thanks so much!!!
