Kindergarten News: February 1st - February 5th

What we’re      
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

We will be practicing our reading and writing skills through fun daily five stations that will be tied to what we is being studied in Science  (penguins). We will also be learning how to do research on pebblego.com! Be sure to ask your child what they are researching and what they have learned!  

Math

We will be continuing our unit on shapes! We will be focusing on 3D shapes and how parts of the shapes are made from 2D shapes! Don't forget about our important vocabulary such as vertices, edges and faces to help identify each shape!  After we learn about all of the shapes there will be an e.mail this week for a fun flipped video lesson that your kids participate in at home!  Thanks! 

Science / Social Studies 

In Science we will begin our fun unit on Penguins.  We will learn how to research facts about the different types of penguins.  Please remember to complete the flipped classroom video on Penguins       by Monday.  You will need to help your child log into www.pebblego.com and click on animals, click on penguins, and then look at the four different types of penguins listed.

In Social Studies we are going to be studying Presidents.  We will learn many interesting facts about our past and present leaders and how they impacted our Country.  We will creating thinking maps in our Social Studies Journal.

February 26th - Jump Rope for Heart during specials @ 1:20

We LOVED all of the snowflakes that were sent in! They were so creative!


Six Flags Reading Logs:
 If your child would like to participate please keep the log and fill it out and when your 6 hours are complete you can return it to school!  Remember the hours logged can be your child reading to your or YOU reading to your child!  Either one counts!  If you need an additional log let us know and we can send one home!  If you do not know about this program your child can earn a free ticket to 6 Flags for participating!

Kindergarten News January 25th - January 29th 2016

What we’re      
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

 In LA we will be talking about something I call "best place to learn."  This will give learners some choice in where they complete some of their assignments (at their desk, on the carpet, at a table group) and help them to self evaluate where they do their best work!  Book bags will come home tomorrow, Tuesday, and we will also add two new word wall words:  "for" and "me."  We will also begin focusing on learning how to form and write lowercase letters.  

Math

We will be continuing our unit on shapes! We will keep focusing on 2D shapes and then learn how to determine between irregular and regular shapes! Don't forget about our important vocabulary such as vertices, faces and faces to help identify each shape!  Watch your e.mail this week for a fun flipped video lesson that your kids participate in at home!  Thanks! 

Science / Social Studies

In Social Studies we are finishing a unit on US Symbols and what they represent!  We are wrapping up a mini book to show what we have learned and share facts about our symbols.

We thought it might be fun to have another design challenge this month for your kiddos to showcase their creative and innovative ideas!  Your child may create any kind of snowflake using whatever types of materials they like for us to display on our front bulletin board of TCE! (Paper, plastic, foil, glitter, etc.) The last day for snowflakes is this Friday, January 29th!

Kindergarten News: January 18th - January 22nd

What we’re     
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

 In LA we will continue to work on our reading and writing skills!  I am so proud of all the kids and how far they have come!  We will be doing some reading and writing on penguins the next couple of weeks as well as reviewing all 20 of our word wall words!  Keep reading at home!

Math

We will be starting our new unit shapes! We will start off learning about 2D shapes and then move into learning about 3D shapes! We will learning important vocabulary such as vertices, faces and faces to help identify each shape!

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will begin a new unit on Hibernation, Migration, and Adaptations.  We will learn about these things through some interactive science stations and hands on games.  A flipped classroom lesson will be coming home next week so be on the lookout and help your child when it comes!

Kindergarten News January 11th - January 15th

Language Arts

 In LA this week we will continue to review skills and words we have previously learned! We are reading books about Winter and Snow and working on a fun Snowman Writing Activity!   Our new word wall words will be:  "he" and "she."  Book bags will come home Monday! Thanks so much for reading!

Math

We wrapping up our personal finance unit by working in collaborative groups to start our own businesses and decide if we would like to offer a good or a service!
  I will also be working with learners individually to assess their math skills for report cards! I am so proud of everyone!

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will continue our unit on weather and winter weather.   

In Social Studies we are beginning a new unit on US Symbols!  We are excited to learn more about our country!

Kindergarten News - Happy New Year!!

What we’re     
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

 Welcome back!! In LA this week we will be reviewing skills and words we have previously learned! We are starting some new Daily 5 stations where we will be practicing our sentence writing and reviewing our word wall words and practicing sounding out CVC words! Our new word wall words will be:  "is" and "my."  Book Bags went home today,  so please resume reading! Thanks so much! 

Math

We will be continuing our unit on money. We are focusing on financial literacy. We will be learning the difference between earning money (as an income) and receiving money as a gift.
  
We will be continuing our new daily five stations that are working on extending what we have learned with composing and decomposing numbers.

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will be focusing on weather and winter weather.    In our learning stations we will focus on snowflakes, winter weather, and weather games.

In Social Studies we are ringing in the new year! We will wrap up our discussion of traditions by talking about how we all celebrated the arrival of 2016!
