Reading Rainbow BINGO

Last week a Red Bingo card was sent home. Each time your child turns in the completed colored card (Books they read), they earn a jibbitz bracelet and a charm to add to the bracelet. In May, if your child has completed all Rainbow colored cards, they will get an INVITE to attend a SPECIAL PARTY!
We read these books this week, so you can check them off on your bingo card!

What We Are Learning:

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
We will continue to practice writing two sentences in our journal! We will keep practicing how to use  capital letters, spaces between words, and ending punctuation.

Phonics:
We will learn how to use and read our ABC Chart! This ABC Chart will help us with letter names and sounds. It will be a great resource for reading and writing!

Readers Workshop:
We will begin a new unit on Readers Can Read.... We will discuss the different things we can read from in Reader's Workshop (book bag books, SNAP Word Cards, ABC Chart, RaZZ Kids).  We will learn and set expectations for personal reading and partner reading.

Math

In Math this week, we will begin diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on representing our numbers to 10. This means being able to show our numbers in different ways like drawing pictures, using counters, using a ten frame, tally marks, and so much more! We will practice these skills with some extra fun and spoooooky Math activities!

Science

Pumpkins, Bats, and Spiders, OH MY!!  We have a fun and exciting week planned for science.   We will start the week with rolling pumpkins on home made ramps and outdoor slides (force and motion). We will read "Roll Away Pumpkin," by Juna Wonders and see how the pumpkins rolled in the story and compare how fast, slow, and far our pumpkins rolled.  We will also learn the lifecycles of a pumpkin, bat and a spider!

Scientist of the Week:
I am looking forward to our Scientist of the Week! All students will get an opportunity to share an experiment with their class throughout the year. I will send home information with the "Scientist" the Friday before the experiment is due.

Way to go to this week's scientists!!

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will be talking about pumpkins.  We will create a "ballot" showing different faces to carve on a pumpkin. We will hold an election, and explain that everyones vote counts once in this decision.  The winning design will be carved into our Kindergarten pumpkin.  We will write about pumpkins and describe what they look like and how they compare in size!
