Important Information:

Library Books and Book Bags

Please return Book Bags and Library books every Monday so your child can get a new book to take home!

Coats and Winter Wear

As the weather turns colder and students are needing coats for recess we would ask a few things:
Please put your child's name or initials in coats, hats, mittens, etc... These items get misplaced often and it is so helpful if there is a name inside so we can get it back to the correct friend!
Next, please practice with your child putting their winter coats / jackets on and zipping or buttoning them independently. While we are MORE than happy to help with the zipping and buttoning, etc... the more friends that can do it by themselves the more time we get out on the playground rather than getting zipped, buttoned, and dressed for the weather! We would so appreciate your help!

Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we begin writing on some lined paper and work to add more sentences to our writing.  We are still working hard to sound out words that are unfamiliar and spell phonetically.  We will also focus on using a checklist to help us remember to start with a capital, leave finger spaces, and put punctuation at the end of our sentences!

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will continue our unit on becoming super readers! So far we have learned how to use: Pointer Power, Slider Power, and SNAP word Power! We are becoming such great readers!  This week we will get "Think Power" and learn about how we can think about words and books to learn more.  Book bags are going GREAT! Thank you so much for reading at home.  Please return book bags on Monday 1/9 if you have not and I will get new books home to you! Thanks!

Phonics:
This week in phonics we will review segmenting and breaking apart and blending together CVC words.  We will continue to review all the common sounds that letters make!  We will also get two new SNAP Words: "is" and "my."  Below is a chart we have in our classroom of all the words we have learned so far!

Math

In Math this week, we will be introduced to our TEEN NUMBERS! We will also be reviewing our counting strategies. We will be creating a Keynote digital presentation to show all of our cool counting strategies and show what we know about our teen numbers!

Social Studies

This week we will learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the significance and impact he made for our Country.  We will learn about Civil Rights, American History, and explain the importance of MLK Day.  Our Schools will be closed, Monday, January 17th to observe MLK Day.

Science

We will continue our Unit on "Weather" to find out what the sky and the air outside are like, such as cold, cloudy, rain and wind.  Our lives can be affected by weather and what we wear.  Please have your child share their "Keynote" Weather Journal with you!  We will continue to work on our Weather Journal this week during class.
