Valentine's Day

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day at school on Tuesday, February 14th! Please have your child address a Valentine card to each person in their homeroom class. A class list was sent home in your child's folder this week. Please have them bring the cards with them too school on our before Tuesday, February 14th.
We will be making Valentine bags (to collect our Valentines in) at school the week of February 6th. If you would like to donate any stickers, stamps, doilies, or things to decorate our bags, we would greatly appreciate it!
On Tuesday, February 14th we will celebrate with a class party from 2:00 to 3:00. Parents are welcome to attend.

100th Day of School

We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School on January 31st! (This is a change from the previously announced date of February 1st - I apologize!!!) One fun activity we will do is share collections of 100 objects. A bag is coming home in your child's folder with your child's name on it. Please help your child fill their bag with 100 items and bring the collection to school. An important part of this activity is having your child count the 100 objects.
Examples include 100 paper clips, 100 stickers, 100 pennies, etc. The possibilities are endless!
Please send the collection to school next week. We will return everything after the 100th Day of School.
We are SO proud of all of their hard work over the last 100 days, and we can't wait to celebrate 100 days of FUN in Kindergarten!!!

iPad Update and Info

Please double check your child's school issued I Pad to be sure it has the latest update! Also, please don't forget to charge it each night and send it to school each day! We have a limited number of charges available in our classrooms and we would love your help with this! Thank you!

Coats and Winter Wear

As the weather turns colder and students are needing coats for recess we would ask a few things:
Please put your child's name or initials in coats, hats, mittens, etc... These items get misplaced often and it is so helpful if there is a name inside so we can get it back to the correct friend!
Next, please practice with your child putting their winter coats / jackets on and zipping or buttoning them independently. While we are MORE than happy to help with the zipping and buttoning, etc... the more friends that can do it by themselves the more time we get out on the playground rather than getting zipped, buttoned, and dressed for the weather! We would so appreciate your help!

Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue our unit on "How To" writing. This unit focuses on writing to teach others. We will learn about transition words such as first, next, and last. We will write simple sentences that can help us share information and things we are good at!

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will begin a new unit called Boosting Our Reading Powers!  We will take the skills we learned in Super Readers and give them a BOOST!  This week we will boost up our Super powers by focusing on Picture Power and Vowel Power!

Phonics:
This week in phonics we will continue our focus on VOWEL Power. We will talk about the middle vowel sounds (short vowel sounds) in CVC words. We will practice hearing and recording sounds and identifying the correct vowel for each CVC word.

Math

In Math this week, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school! We will do lots of fun activities to show the ways to count to 100 and to celebrate all of our learning over the last 100 days!
We will also be learning about comparing teen numbers!

Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will continue our unit on Kindness and Friends. We will practice writing upper/lower case letters in our handwriting book.

Science

In Science, we will continue learning about Earth Materials (Soil).  We will observe, describe, and compare different properties of soil and give examples of ways soil can be useful.  Hoping we will have an opportunity (weather permitting) to go outside and use our tools such as magnifying glasses, shovels, and sifters to investigate different soils in our garden. I wonder what we will find?
