Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue writing sentences in our journals!
We are practicing becoming brave spellers to hear and record the sounds we find in words! Phonetic spelling is a huge part of Kindergarten Writing and we are doing so good!  Here is a list of fall words we sounded out together in class!

Reader's Workshop:
We will continue our unit on rereading and looking closely at books to learn and notice more.
We will also read some fun books about fall,  pumpkins, and Halloween.

Phonics:
We will continue focusing on the common sounds that letters represent! We have also been discussing and learning about syllables in words too! We will continue to practice "chopping" up our words to hear the syllables.

Math

In Math this week, we will continue building on our numeracy skills! We will spend this week reading, writing,  and representing our numbers through 10. We will learn the correct way to write each number. We will also be able to represent numbers in SO many ways: ten frames, pictures, tally marks, number lines, and MORE!

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we will continue with our Unit on Our Country, and Land We Love! We will learn why we celebrate patriotic holidays with fireworks and parades.  Tomorrow (Monday), I will send out the information about our Kindergarten Pet Parade and Pet Sleepover that will be on Friday, October 21st!  It will be so much FUN!!

We have begun our "Handwriting Without Tears" Handwriting Program by practicing how to write our name with a Capital letter and lower case letters.   Please practice with your child writing their name using Upper/lower case letters.  If they return practice paper,  they can earn an extra sticker!

Science

In Science, we will continue our Unit on Physical Science: Force, Motion, and Energy. This week we will learn how Light Energy travels in waves, and we can see the wavelengths of light in different colors. We will learn about man-made and natural energy.
