Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue writing sentences in our journals!

So far we have learned 6 SNAP Words:
I, like, can, see, a, said
We will get two new words this week:
and / we

Reader's Workshop:
We will continue our unit on rereading and looking closely at books to learn and notice more.
We will also read some fun books about FALL.

Phonics:
We will continue focusing on the common sounds that letters represent! We will discuss being a brave speller and how we say words slowly to sound them out and record the sounds we hear.

At Parent / Teacher Conferences I gave you the log in information for your child for two apps that use to help promote success in reading and phonics: Raz Kids and I Station! We have learned about both of these apps in class and will continue to practice using them.  Please feel free to check them out at home too!

Math

In Math this week, we will start building on our numeracy skills! We will spend this week reviewing and building onto our subitizing and counting skills. These are such a foundational skill that will help us continue to grow and become great mathematicians!
Here is a FUN video to practice subitizing. See if you and your child can subitize together!

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we will continue with our Unit on Our Country, and Land We Love!  We will learn why we celebrate patriotic holidays with fireworks and parades.  We have a special stuffed animal parade for Kindergarten planned on Oct. 21st.  More information to come...

We will begin our "Handwriting Without Tears" Handwriting Program.  It is a developmentally based program designed to help learners with fine motor skills along with visual skills through fun and interactive activities.

Science

In Science, we will continue our Unit on Physical Science: Force, Motion, and Energy.  This week we will learn how Sound Energy comes from vibrations moving through something.  Sound energy is the result when a force, either sound or pressure, makes an object vibrate.
