Volunteering and Classroom Helpers

Throughout the course of the year we will be looking for some volunteers to help us with specials events in our classrooms! If you are interested in volunteering or attending any of these events you will need to have a background check on file. You can go ahead and fill this out here!

Restroom Breaks in Kindergarten

As the school year gets going we wanted to touch base on kindergarten friends and using the restroom! We know that using a public / school restroom can be an adjustment for some so we wanted to share our procedures with you.... Typically we take three whole class restroom breaks each day (one in the morning, one at 10:20 prior to lunch, and one in the afternoon), however your child can always ask to use the restroom independently and we will allow them to walk down to go. At times we might ask for them to wait for a moment until another student returns so as not to overwhelm the number of students down at the restroom together. Please encourage your child to ask the teacher if they need to go as well as having a conversation about asking before it becomes an emergency! We do our very best to meet everyones needs restroom and otherwise as soon as we possibly can. Please keep a clean change of clothes in your child's backpack in case an accident occurs. Thanks so much!!!

Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue telling our story in pictures! We will continue writing in our journals by adding the date at the bottom and illustrating our story at the top! We will also begin adding labels to our writing!  We will label pictures with their beginning sounds, for example "sun" would be labeled with an "S."

Reading Workshop:
This week we will review what we learned and discussed in "We Are All Readers!" We will continue to discuss how readers look, think, read, and learn! We will practice reading letter names and discussing the parts of books! We will also begin practicing our reader's workshop by reading quietly and looking for familiar letters, words, and pictures in books! We will learn how to re-read to learn more!

Phonics:
This week we will continue focusing on the common sounds that letters represent!

Math

In Math this week, we will begin working on our numeracy skills! We will focus on counting strategies this week. We will sing counting songs, play counting games, and do lots of hand-on counting activities during Math Workshop!

Here are some pictures from our first week of Math Workshop:

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will continue our study on Rules in school, home, and our community.  Look for our "Special Guest" videos.  We will be able to identify how rules are important, keep us safe, and how rules help us everyday!

Science

In Science next week we will start our Unit on Properties of Matter.  We will begin with observing and recording properties of objects that are bigger, smaller, heavier and lighter.  Objects can be described and sorted based upon their properties.  We will be "Scientist" and use our Science Journals to record our observations.
