Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue telling our story in pictures! We will continue writing in our journals by adding the date at the bottom and illustrating our story at the top! We will work on adding more labels to our writing! We will label pictures with their beginning sounds, for example "sun" would be labeled with an "S."

We will also learn to new SNAP words! SNAP words are high frequency words that are found most commonly in English texts. We call them SNAP Words because we learn them so that we will know them in a SNAP!
This week we will learn the words: "can" and "see"

Reader's Workshop:
This week we will complete our unit called "We Are Storybook Readers." We will practice reading stories that we have made storybook favorites and we will use exact words from the stories and look for words we know!  We will work hard to find our SNAP Words (I, like, can, see)  in the books we are reading!

Phonics:
This week we will continue focusing on the common sounds that letters represent! Feel free to watch the video below with your child to hear how we correctly pronounce each sound! We will also learn how to use the app: Khan Academy Kids to help us with our letter sounds!

Math

In Math this week, we will continue working on our numeracy skills! We will focus on representing numbers! We will learn that numbers can be represented in so many ways! We can use ten frames, pictures, dice, number bonds, number lines, and SO much more to represent our numbers! We will play many fun games, sing songs, and do lots of hand-on activities to practice representing numbers during Math Workshop!

Social Studies

We will continue our study on Rules, Laws and Authority Figures. We are so excited to get the opportunity to visit our Community Police & Fire Stations, and Public Library! A field trip permission form went home last week. Please return by Friday, September 23rd. We would love to have as many chaperones as possible. You can find the background check online form HERE!

Library:
I hope your child enjoyed their library book they checked out at our TCE Library last week! Please return library book on Monday so your child can get a new book to take home!

Science

We are continuing our unit on Properties. Next week we will focus on materials such as metal, wood, plastic, glass, fabric and cardboard. We have some new vocabulary words for the week - stiff, bendable, flexible, stretchy, and texture (the way in which a surface feels). Your child is welcome to take pictures (on their iPad ) of objects that have the properties we have studied. I would love for them to share with their class.
