Kindergarten News: September 5th- September 9th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will continue our focus on writing in our journals! We will learn two new sight words "can" and "see."  We will be wrapping up our book study on the "Black Lagoon" books! We have met so many wonderful members of the TCE staff and have loved having them read to us!

Math

This week we will start our exploration of number sense. This is a time where we will be counting, subatizing (recognizing amounts instantly), having number talks and working on our number of the day. Some things that we will be focusing on are:
1. Counting to 25 and beyond (with and without objects)
2. Counting backwards from 20
3. Reading and writing our numbers
4. Giving the numbers before and after a given number

Please check out your math teachers web page for some of the helpful and fun videos that we have been listening to in class!

*If you have a cool career that uses math, we would love to hear from you! We would love to work with you so that you can share how you use math in your career!
( You could come in, we could Skype, or you could simply send an email letting us know what you do and we can create a slide show of different careers submitted! )
Just email your child's math teacher and we will set it all up!

Science

This week in science, we will continue learning all about our five senses! Be sure to ask your child what sense they talked about today and how they used it in class!
As an extension, help your child make a list of his/her favorite ways that he/she uses all five of the senses.

Thank you again to the parents who have donated to our taste testing experiment. If you have not sent the item you signed up for in yet, please do that as soon as possible. :)

*If you have a cool career that is working with one of the five senses exclusively, please contact us! We would love to hear about what you do and possibly have you in to share what you do with our sweet kiddos!
(Last year we had an ear specialist in who explained to the kiddos how she works with devices to help kids with hearing impairments hear with the cochlear implants.)

2016-2017 Curriculum Night

Picture Day

Picture Day is this Thursday! Please be sure to either fill out the online form, or send in your order form for your child. We will do our best to look in everyone's folder to get all of the forms. Please make sure that you place the form in the folder so that it is easy to find/ easy for your child to remember to get it out during our morning routine of unpacking.

Special Friends Day

Mark your calendars! Special Friends Day is coming up! This is such a fun time where your child can invite a special friend (grandparent, parent, neighbor, etc.....) to come to our classroom to see all of the wonderful things that have been happening so far in kindergarten. This is an opportunity for your child to also take ownership in THEIR school. They can show their special friend around the school as well as take them to the book fair. More information will be coming about the time that kindergarten special friends time slot is!

Fall Family Picnic

Mark your calendars for a night of fun! More information is to come, but you and your family do not want to miss the Fall Family Picnic on Friday, September 23!
