Kindergarten News: September 26- September 30

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will begin a new unit on Nursery Rhymes and focus on rhyming words and songs.  We will learn two new words in our word folder: "we" and "are."   In our journals we will learn how to write two sentences on a single topic (example: I like cats.  Cats are orange.).  We are having a blast in Daily 5 Literacy Stations and will start some new ones on Tuesday!

Math

This week we will continue our exploration of number sense. We will be starting math stations within the classroom. This is a great time for learners to explore number sense in a fun way with their friends in the classroom!
Learners will start meeting in small groups this week as well! This is a time where we will be focusing on the specific needs of your child!

Thank you for working with your child to make sure that they are able to do the following things:
1. Counting to 25 and beyond (with and without objects)
2. Counting backwards from 20
3. Reading and writing our numbers
4. Giving the numbers before and after a given number

Here are two power point presentations to help your child recognize groups of numbers as well as numbers out of order!

Subitizing

Science

This week in science, we will be exploring the material in our world: fabric. We will learn how fabric is made and many more things! Check out this video on how fabric was made before machines!

We have also been talking about different weather patterns! We will continue to discuss weather each day not only here in Coppell, but around the world! We are excited to get to compare the weather across the United States and World!
