Kindergarten News: September 19th - September 23rd

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will continue our unit on "Me and My Family."  We will keep talking and learning about how our families help us change and grow!  We will be creating some special things for our Special Friends when the visit on Friday!  We will also take our I Station assessment on the MacBooks this week! We will fill you in on the information at parent / teacher conferences in October!

Math

This week we will continue our exploration of number sense. This is a time where we will be counting, subatizing (recognizing amounts instantly), having number talks and working on our number of the day. Some things that we will be focusing on are:
1. Counting to 25 and beyond (with and without objects)
2. Counting backwards from 20
3. Reading and writing our numbers
4. Giving the numbers before and after a given number

Please check out your math teachers web page for some of the helpful and fun videos that we have been listening to in class!

*If you have a cool career that uses math, we would love to hear from you! We would love to work with you so that you can share how you use math in your career!

Science

This week in science, we will finish our exploration of wood and start our exploration of paper and its different properties.

*If you have a cool career that you work with wood or paper exclusively, please contact us! We would love to hear about what you do and possibly have you in to share what you do with our sweet kiddos!
(Last year we had an ear specialist in who explained to the kiddos how she works with devices to help kids with hearing impairments hear with the cochlear implants.)

We have also been talking about different weather patterns! We will continue to discuss weather each day not only here in Coppell, but around the world! We are excited to get to compare the weather across the United States and World!

Special Friends Day

Special Friends Day is this Friday! This is such a fun time where your child can invite a special friend (grandparent, parent, neighbor, etc.....) to come to our classroom to see all of the wonderful things that have been happening so far in kindergarten. This is an opportunity for your child to also take ownership in THEIR school. They can show their special friend around the school as well as take them to the book fair. Kindergarten's time slot is from 9:30-10:30!

If your child would like to invite their special friend to lunch, our lunch time is 10:45. ( So their special friend could meet up with us in the cafeteria about 15 minutes after our time slot! )

Fall Family Picnic

Fall Family Picnic is on Friday, September 23! This will be a night of fun from 5:30-8:00 PM. There will be food trucks, Kona Ice and TCBY! Be sure to bring foldable chairs or a blanket to sit on while you eat, chat and watch your child play!

There will also be a raffle ( Tickets should have come home today) with some great prizes! Be on the lookout for the Teacher Party Auction table! This is a fun after school activity with the kindergarten teachers that you can sign your child up for!
