Kindergarten News: February 8th- February 12th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Language Arts

We will continue to practice our reading and writing skills through fun daily five stations that are tied to what is being studied in Science, penguins and  their habitats. We will also continue to work on our research on pebblego.com! Be sure to ask your child what they are researching and what they have learned!

Math

We will be finishing our unit on shapes! Please look at the attachment sent in an email for the fun activity that is focusing on finding shapes (2D and 3D) within the world! Don't forget about our important vocabulary such as vertices, edges and faces to help identify each shape!

We will be starting our studies on measurement! In kindergarten, it is all about nonstandard units of measurement ( no rulers ). Measurement is always a class favorite, because once we learn about length, weight and capacity, we will have fun stations where your child will apply their knowledge! In the next couple of weeks, we will be getting to do our very first engineering project in Math! I cannot wait for your child to share all they are learning about measurement.

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will continue our fun unit on Penguins and habitats.  We will learn how to research facts about the different types of penguins.  Please remember to complete the flipped classroom video on Penguins       by Monday.  You will need to help your child log into www.pebblego.com and click on animals, click on penguins, and then look at the four different types of penguins listed.

In Social Studies we are going to be studying Presidents.  We will learn many interesting facts about our past and present leaders and how they impacted our Country.  We will creating thinking maps in our Social Studies Journal.

Every Friday, we are participating in Mind Missions! This is a time that the students are able to collaborate within a group to problem solve challenges given. Ask your child about the one we did today on the "Presidents Party" in honor of Presidents Day!
