September 13th - 17th

Welcome to our Kindergarten blog! Each week we will update this with important information, reminders, dates for your calendar, plus a peek into our week! Thank you for taking the time to read it.

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Writing Workshop this week we will continue using labels (words) to tell part of our story! We will also start our word folder which is a folder that helps us learn our high frequency words! This week we will learn the words: I, like, can.

In Reading Workshop we will begin talking about reading "old storybook favorites." We will learn that when we read books again and again we can tell the story ourselves!

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We have learned almost all the letter sounds and are continuing to practice them!

Math

In Math this week, we will be learning about SUBITIZING! Subitizing is a fundamental skill in Math. It means to instantly recognize a structure arrangement - here is a video below! See if you can subitize like our Kindergartners!

Science

In Science this week, we will learn about how heating and cooling can change an object. We will learn about melting and freezing. We will do several fun experiments to observe melting and freezing!

Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will continue to learn about "Me and My World." We will learn about authority figures in our homes, schools, and communities.  This week we will discuss why these authority figures give us rules and why they are important for us to follow!

9/11 First Responders Day:
On Friday, September 10th we read a book called "Fireboat."  This is a positive story that tells about some of the many heroes of 9/11.  We did not get into any details of the day! I simply shared the book with them (which is a true story) and shared about the people who helped that day!

Important Information

Headphones

We will be starting many assessments and activities using our iPads soon, and these will need good working headphones. Please check with your child to see if they need a working set of headphones! A lot of the ones that came in the supply pack are not working well or have already been broken. If you need some suggestions for ones to get, here and here are some we have seen work well!

Breakfast

Breakfast is free for all elementary learners. If you would like for your child to get a breakfast from the cafeteria, please have your child at school between 7:20 and 7:25. This allows them plenty of time to eat breakfast in the cafeteria without missing any valuable class time!

Masks

Our Coppell ISD Board of Trustees has mandated masks at all indoor facilities in CISD until September 27th . Please talk to your child about the proper way to wear a mask and please send a mask with them to school each day. For more information on COVID 19 protocols and masking, including the mask exemption form please click HERE!
