First Grade News October 16th-20th


What We're Working on This Week:

First Grade Curriculum:
Language Arts 

This week in Language Arts we will continue to practice writing using an opening, closing, and transition words.  We will add some journal entries to SeeSaw.  We will also begin a new unit in spelling that focuses on words that have the sh / th digraph.  We will wrap up our focus on Traditional Tales, Folk Tales and Fables and continue to discuss their characteristics and practice our "Readers Response".  Thank you so much for reading at home with your kiddos! Book bags are going great!



Social Studies
We will begin a new unit on government!  We will learn about symbols that represent our country and talk about voting and rights!

Math

In math this week, we will be learning about comparing numbers. We will learn to look at the tens place first and then the ones place before comparing numbers. We will be able to use the vocabulary "greater than," "less than," and "equal to" like pros!

Science

This week in science we will be continuing our unit all about Energy, Force, and Motion. We will continue looking at different types of energy such as heat energy, light energy, and sound energy. This week specifically we will look at how heat and sound energy affect our lives. We will discover how these types of energy help our every day life!
