First Grade News October 10th-13th

What We're Working on This Week:

First Grade Curriculum:

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts we will continue our spelling review of short vowels. We will focus on words with the short u sound. We will continue practicing our writing with topic sentences, transition words, and closing sentences. We will also continue reading folktales, traditional tales, and fables. These are traditional and familiar stories that help us learn how to make text to self connections in our reading!

Social Studies

We will learn a little bit about Christopher Columbus (just for fun!) and begin a new unit on Government!

Math

In math this week, we will continue learning all about place value. This week we will continue to focus on decomposing numbers. What that means is realizing that numbers can be built in different ways. We will continue to explore these concepts in stations, small group guided math, and playing math games. We will be uploading things to our SeeSaw accounts, so be on the lookout for great learning!

Science

This week in science we will be beginning our unit all about Energy, Force, and Motion. We will be looking at different types of energy such as heat energy, light energy, and sound energy. We will discover how these types of energy help our every day life!
