Kindergarten News: May 1st- May 5

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will be wrapping up our research unit on community helpers.  We have completed our research and now we are working through the writing process to produce a final copy of or work.  Everyone has enjoyed working with a parter and learning how to compromise.  Look for our research folders and writing projects to come home soon!
Keep reading the book in the bags and practicing at home!  We can't wait to share all our growth and progress with you!

Math
This week we are continuing to practice our subtraction skills!

We are focusing on making sure that we always subtract with the larger number first! As we look at story problems, we are making sure that we are looking and listening for key words that help us know that we will be subtracting! This will really help us when we start to get mixed problems!

As adding and subtracting agents, we are always looking for clues to help us know what to do! We always go through our detective 4 step process!
1. read the problem
2. underline our question
3. box in the words that help us know if we are going to add or subtract
4. circle our important numbers

Once we have gone through our 4 steps, we are ready to choose our how we want to solve the problem with the information we have gained!!

Here are the strategies that we have learned!

Math Challenge!!

Can you count to 150+? If you can count with your parents to 150 or above without any help, you will be able to earn a Texan Buck! We cannot wait to hear everyone counting!!!

Science

Today we wrapped up our study of force and motion! We had a blast getting to learn about how a lot of the things that we do for fun fall into the force and motion category! Check out what Mrs. Brehm bought for our classes to "learn" from! Who knew learning could be so much fun?!?!? Be sure to ask your child what how bowling relates to force and motion!

coming up!!!!!

This week we will be starting our study of rocks! To help us with our observations, if your child would like to bring in one rock on Monday please have them bring it in a labeled ziplock baggie! We will be able to observe different rocks and all of their properties when we do our rock reports!

TCE Garden Design Challenge

We are going to have a Garden Design Challenge in which all learners can turn in drawings, models, paintings, etc. in order to show what they would like for our garden area to look like for TCE.  We currently have several beds and have been working with a company, Real School Gardens, in order to find even more ways to incorporate real world, hands-on applications within our garden to enrich our academic learning.

We are going to have our TCE Student Council work with a committee at the campus for choosing final selections for the overall design.  Until then, any ideas are welcome!  We are going to work with our Dad's Club/Green Team Volunteers in order to get going, but would love more helpers for when we get to our build!

Our goal is to build and get the designs in place for additional areas of the garden the week of May 15th.

If you would like to be a part of this planning process or building, please fill out the following Google form:
We will reach out to you toward the middle of April!
