Kindergarten News: April 10th- April 14th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week in LA and SS we are starting a new unit on Community Helpers!  We will be learning about our community and the people and jobs that help us!  We will be reading, writing, and researching about professions in our Coppell Community!  If your profession is community service oriented and you would like to come and share with kindergarten about it please let us know!  We would love to have you come and talk!  We are looking for police officers, fire fighters, doctors, dentist, nurses, mail carriers, etc...  Please let us know!

We will also be learning two new word wall words: "come" and "it."  We will keep writing in our journals and bringing home book bags to read too!  Thank you for helping us at home!

Math
This week we are going to continue learning about addition! We will be using our different strategies we have learned to help us when we are adding (and later on when we are subtracting). We are soon going to be starting subtraction!

Here are the strategies that we have learned!

If you have not tried out Reflex Math with your child, it might be a good time to try. Please remember, if your child becomes frustrated- please stop and let your teacher know and we will provide different ways to practice addition and subtraction at home! :)

You were all so generous and we are so excited with everything that we did today with them and all we are going to get to do next week with them! Be watching for a fun blog post about all the activities that we will have done next week with the jellybeans! Todays engineering project went wonderfully when we were constructing the tallest tower!

No School
On April 14th, there will be no school. The district builds in weather days each year. We have not used any so we will not have school due to that! Enjoy your break!

Parent Volunteer Breakfast
On April 19th TCE would like to celebrate you! If you are a parent who has come in to help out or if you have helped us by taking things home to work on, we would like to treat you to breakfast! We will be hosting breakfast in the TCE Library. Please arrive at 7:30! We cannot thank you enough for all you do for us here at TCE! We could not do all that we do without you!

 TCE Hoedown
On April 21st, we will be having our annual TCE Hoedown! It is a night of fun activities, a silent auction and food! More information to come soon!
****If you would like to help out by running a station for a portion of the time (30 min.),  please contact the front office! We have many spots open!

Dads Camp Out
Mark your calendar! On April 28th TCE is hosting a dads camp out night! More information to come! Nick Walther, our Dad representative is in charge of this- Please reach out to him for more information!!

TCE Garden Design Challenge

We are going to have a Garden Design Challenge in which all learners can turn in drawings, models, paintings, etc. in order to show what they would like for our garden area to look like for TCE.  We currently have several beds and have been working with a company, Real School Gardens, in order to find even more ways to incorporate real world, hands-on applications within our garden to enrich our academic learning.

We are going to have our TCE Student Council work with a committee at the campus for choosing final selections for the overall design.  Until then, any ideas are welcome!  We are going to work with our Dad's Club/Green Team Volunteers in order to get going, but would love more helpers for when we get to our build!

Our goal is to build and get the designs in place for additional areas of the garden the week of May 15th.

If you would like to be a part of this planning process or building, please fill out the following Google form:
We will reach out to you toward the middle of April!
