Language Arts / Social Studies

This week in LA / SS we will continue working on and finishing up our penguin stations!  We made a Penguin Portfolio that will come home soon to show you some of our work!  We will be reviewing all of the word wall words we have learned so far, everyone is doing great.  We will also be doing some fun Valentine activities too!  Keep reading at home, everyone is doing great!

Math

Today is the 100th day of school! We will be doing 10 stations for 10 minutes each! We are so excited to do 100 minutes of stations using 100 things. We will be making a seperate post to show you all that we have done! 

This week we will be continuing our studies on measurement. We will continue to focus on measuring objects using nonstandard units of measurement (no rulers/ things with numbers). Please help your child remember that when they are measuring the length of an object, they need to measure going from edge to edge. This will help lay the foundation of the importance of starting and stopping at the correct places! This next week we will be going through stations to practice all we have learned about Length and Weight! We will also be exploring capacity.  Be sure and ask your child how we measured each day! 

Our vocabulary words will be:  length, capacity, weight, more, less, attribute, longer, shorter, heavier, lighter, and compare.  

Science

We are going to start our study on hibernation, adaptation and migration. We will be using what we know about different weather patterns and how it affects different animals. We will be learning about how animals prepare for the changes that come with weather change.  We will draw on our prior knowledge of the needs of living things to help us understand what animals do while hibernating!
