Kindergarten News: November 7th- November 11th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
We will continue our unit on Thanksgiving!  We have been learning about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans and their journey together.  Today we learned about the Mayflower!  We are starting some fun research rotations this week as we continue to learn more about the first Thanksgiving!
We will also continue to work on using our journal checklist in our writing.
Lastly we will learn two new words: "have" (we did not get to this one last week!) and "is."

"THE MAYFLOWER"

Math

This week we will continue composing and decomposing numbers by using number bonds. This is breaking an amount apart into two numbers. This is an introduction into combinations of numbers that will help them once we start addition and subtraction! Be on the look out for learners sending you their explination of them composing or decomposing a number!
As a challenge, click here to decompose numbers at home!

We are also working on seeing patterns in numbers when we are writing. Every learner needs a empty paper towel roll for what we will be doing. We are going to be making a scroll that they will get to build onto as they write larger number amounts! Every year, once the pattern is seen, the kiddos just take off! I cannot wait to show you how high your child will be able to write!

We are also do a fun math challenge of counting in different languages to 10 or 20. If you are a friend who is able to count in a different language, please have you mom or dad video tape you and send it to either Mrs. McKinney or Mrs. Brehm. Please include the region of where your language is from, as we are making a link to that place in the world!
***Example: Hi my name is _______. I am going to count to 10 in Chinese. (Then you would count slowly so others will be able to learn from you!)
We cannot wait to get in the videos, put them on our world map and learn from you!

Science

This week in science week in science we will continue talking about the life cycle of a plant- especially the tree! We will be doing our very first research project on how plants (especially trees) are effected through the seasons. Learners will be working in groups within the classroom on the research website Pebblego.com. I cannot wait for you to see their finished products of research as well as the online nonfiction book they will be making!

Extending your  learning at home:

Wow Luiza! We love how you extended what you learned in science about living and nonliving things at home! We cannot wait to see what else others bring in/ create! Thank you for sharing with us!
