Kindergarten News: October 17th- October 21st

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will be reading books about Fall and Leaves! :) We will brainstorm a list of good fall ideas to write about in our journals this week!  We are still practicing writing two sentences on a single topic!  We are really focusing on starting with a capital letter, using a finger space between words, and ending with a period!  We will also learn two new words in our word folders "not" and "am."

Math

This week we finish our testing of our number sense. We will be continuing in math stations within the classroom.  Please make sure to check your email for a note home from SEESAW! This is an online learning journal that all learners will have access to that will allow you to see what your child is doing in class!

Thank you for working with your child to make sure that they are able to do the following things:(These things are what we are testing for the first nine weeks)
1. Counting to 25 and beyond (with and without objects)
2. Counting backwards from 20
3. Reading and writing our numbers
4. Giving the numbers before and after a given number

Here are two power point presentations to help your child recognize groups of numbers as well as numbers out of order!

Subitizing

Science

This week in science, we will finish working on our first engineering project! We have been using the engineering process to improve the shoe. Ask your child all about the steps that they are going through! (Imagine, Plan, Design, Improve and Share)
**If possible, could you send in some of the following materials in for the students to use to improve their shoe?
*Glitter *Fabric PomPoms (the small balls) *Sequins *Pipe Cleaners

As a challenge, we are inviting all students to practice tying their shoes! If at the end of our engineering project, your child can tie their shoes, they will receive a certificate! Check out the video below to help your child learn!

After we finish our engineering project, we will be learning about the life cycle of a plant. We will be learning about a few different plants life cycles! I cannot wait for you to hear all that they are learning and researching about!
