Kindergarten News: May 16th- May 20th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Language Arts
In Language Arts we will keep working hard to wrap up our Word Folders!!!  We have learned so many words this year, WOW!  Once we finish all 40 Words we will have a 40 Word Wall Words Celebration!  We will celebrate by doing some fun "word' rotations in Daily 5 and playing a few fun "word" games!  This week please focus on the words: "get" "has" and "at."

We will also continue end of the year assessments.  I will be reading with each student as well as doing some writing samples and activities to monitor their growth and progress! Everyone is doing great!

Last but not least No MORE BOOK BAGS.  All of the books must be turned in to be catalogued and inventoried for next school year.  Thanks so much for reading with your kiddos all year! It makes such a big difference! I will send home their folders from the book bags with their reading strategies and word wall words in them! If you find any other guided reading books at your house please send them in! Thanks so much!

Math
We are still working hard on addition and subtraction! We have learned so many strategies and most of us have found what strategies work best for us!
We will continue to work on mixed addition and subtraction problems and knowing what to do when we see a plus sign or a minus sign.

We have been working with Mystery Numbers and making addition and subtraction problems and story problems from a given number! We had a great time today!

Science

We will continue learning about Rocks and Minerals.  We have been having fun with our "True or False" questions and "Did you Know?" comments on Rocks and Minerals. If your child wants to learn more about Rocks and Minerals, they can view the Rock and Mineral video on Brainpop Jr. There are two fun quizzes to take at the end of the video.

 Social Studies

We will continue to work on our Little Bird Tales and try to publish to our Google Page.  Kindergarten was such a wonderful year of memories!  We will be working on A Memory Book to share with our families.  It will be "all about" our fun experiences we participated in this year.

Important Dates...

May 20th- Field Day!!

May 30th- No school! Memorial day

June 2nd- Last day of school

Field Day Reminders:

  • Please be sure and return your child's field day permission slip by Thursday, May 19th.

  • If your child is not a swimmer, please let us know so that we can be sure your child wears a life jacket when we are at the pool on field day!

If you would like to sign up to help our class or run a station at Field Day:
Field Day is almost here! We hope many of you will be able to come and be a part of one of the kid's favorite days of the school year! Field day will be Friday, May 20th. This year due to construction at Andy Brown park, we will be walking learners to Kid Country playground and the outdoor pool at the CORE. All other activities and lunch will take place outside at Town Center. If you are a Trail Pass holder, your field day lunch fee was included and has been paid for. If you did not purchase a Trail Pass at the beginning of the year, please go to REVTRAK and pay the $8 for lunch on field day.
We will be needing some volunteers at different stations for this Hawaiian adventure. Below is the sign up genius to select times and places for volunteers.

*please note that it is CISD policy that no un-enrolled students (siblings) may attend this event, as it is a liability.

If You would like to volunteer, please make sure you have filled out a background check! Please click on the link below:

Things to bring on Field Day:
  1. A change of clothes. We will be leaving these here in the classroom so that when we are done with field day your child will be able to change into a dry pair of clothes. Please remember to pack your child underwear so that they do not have to wear their wet swimming suit.
  2. A beach towel. Please make sure that you have labeled your beach towel. If your child has everything labeled it will make everything go smoothly.
  3. Slip on shoes. No socks please. There will be stations where your child will need to take their shoes off easily and put them on easily. At some points, their feet will be wet and socks will not go on if that is the case. It is just easier if you sent your child in shoes that do not need to be tied or need socks.
  4. Water Bottle. Please label your child's water bottle. This will be traveling with your child so it will need to be labeled so that your child does not accidently drink out of someone else's water bottle.
  5. Sunscreen. If you would like for your child to reapply sunscreen during the day, please send in a labeled sunscreen and we will do our best to reapply after we have gone swimming.

Design Challenge:

We are having another design challenge this month to showcase our students' creative and innovative ideas! Your child may create any kind of insect/ bug using various types of materials for us to display on our front bulletin board or in the library. We cannot wait to see all of the creative ideas you will come up with!

Library News:
The 2015-2016 school year is quickly starting to come to an end! The library has asked that we let you know a few dates that will be coming soon to return your books by! We were just informed that any books that are not turned in by Friday May 20th, will be categorized as lost and there will be a fine applied.

Friday, May 20th- all library books are due!

*Lost library slips were sent home this week, but if you are unsure if you still have a book out, feel free to send Ms. Montgomery an email at amontgomery@coppellisd.com
