Kindergarten News: April 11th- April 15th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Language Arts

We will be continue writing in our new journals! We are posting on SeeSaw so keep looking! I am so proud of all of them!  If you are not getting the SeeSaw e.mails please send me an e.mail and let me know!
This week we will be learning our new word wall words: "was" and "where". Continue to practice spelling and writing our work wall words to help in both reading and writing!
We will also be reading some books by Kevin Henkes!  He is such fun author who writes darling children's books! If you have any Kevin Henkes books at home that you would be willing to share with us please send them to school and I will read them to the class and send them back! Thanks!

Math

We have started our studies on addition. We have been learning about different strategies as well as words to look for/ listen for to help us know that we are needing to add!  We will continue to learn and practice new strategies to find which each learner feels most comfortable with when adding! Be sure to ask your child which strategy they like the most! ( So far we have learned: Draw a picture, count objects, count on your fingers, use a number line, count on  and use counting beads -rekenrek)

Please remember that reflex math is a great tool to use at home for your child to work on their fact fluency. Please be sure to have your child do the work, because when they pass a level, they move onto a harder level.  If your child becomes frustrated, you can always work on fact fluency with a paper and pencil. This way they can practice strategies learned in the classroom until they can see the patterns.
*If you need the login information again for reflex math, please email me @ kmckinney@coppellisd.com and I will be happy to send that to you!

Science / Social Studies

We will be Classifying Animals in Science.  We will classify by Vertebrates (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals) or Invertebrates (insects, crabs, clams, turtles).  Kindergartners will be Zoologist who have just discovered a new animal species and create-an-animal!  We will follow the Engineering Process by designing our animal.  It will be so much fun!!!

Our Chicks should be hatching on April 11th!!!
The web cam is set up for you to start viewing from home.  The links is listed below.
When using the link, you will need to create a "Free" account or log into Facebook account.

In Social Studies, we will be learning about Natural Resources (water, air, oil, rocks, animals, trees) and Man-Made materials (plastic, paper, soda, metal, rubber) and how they are used in our World.

Homework:  Have your child take a nature walk and look at the world around you.  Draw a picture and write a sentence about the different natural resources you see, and the different man-made things you see. Please return to Mrs. Brehm on Monday, April 11th.
