Kindergarten News: March 7th- March 11th

What we’re
Workin’ on this week..

Language Arts

Next week in Language Arts we will continue our unit on Nighttime and Dreams!  The kids are loving all of the fun activities that we will share with you at Open House on March 10th!  We are also doing some fun Daily 5 stations that have some nighttime activities in them as well! One is sitting around the campfire at night to listen to bedtime stories! Ask your kiddos about it!

Math

We are finishing our studies on length and we have had the best time! We cannot wait to show and tell you about the length focused stations we went to the past week!

Next, we will be focusing on measuring weight using a scale! We will be learning how to balance a scale and find the weight of one object by using different objects to measure it. Some of the vocabulary we will be using is heavier, lighter and as heavy as!

*Please remember that in kindergarten, it is all about nonstandard units of measurement.

Science / Social Studies

In Science, we are continuing our Chemical Engineering Unit on Play Dough.   It was so much fun to Skype with Cody Harger.  He helped us understand the Engineering Process for making toilet paper, paper towels, and writing paper, and how we will follow this same process making Play Dough.

Next week in Social Studies, we will continue working on publishing our "Little Bird Tales".  Ms. Rice, Mrs. Wagner, and Ms. Peccarelli helped us write and create our Little Bird Tales.  We are ready to record and present to parents at Open House.

Book Fair:
Book Fair is open this week! Your child will be bringing home their "wish list" that they made when they visited on Friday. We did explain to them that this is a wish list and they may not get the things they are wishing for. If you are wanting to purchase any of the books from the book fair, it will be open throughout the day, so if you would like to take your child after lunch that is a great time! If you are unable to come during the day, the library will be open before and after school from 7:30- 8:00 and again from 3:00- 3:30. You will also have an opportunity to visit during Open House on March 10th!

Open House:

Please join us March 10th from 5:30-7:00 for our open house! We will be showcasing all of our hard work that we have been doing throughout the year as well as a few special projects we have been working on lately! There will be lots of opportunities for your child to show you their school! The Town Center library will be open with our Spring Book Fair and there will also be an art show that will showcase your child's art work! We cannot wait to see you on March 10th!

Field Trip:

If you are planning to chaperone please make sure you have filled out a background check with CISD by clicking the link below.  If you are not sure if you have done this or not Mrs. Fairchild, our school secretary, can help you!

The link is also on the main coppellisd.com / parents / on the right hand side under quick links!

Design Challenge:

We are having another design challenge this month to showcase our students' creative and innovative ideas! Your child may create any kind of flower/plant using various types of materials (no live flowers or plants) for us to display on our front bulletin board or in the library.

Thank you to all that have participated in our design challenge so far! You still have time if you have not had a chance to bring something in to be displayed!

Here are a few of the innovative ideas that were brought in this week!
