Kindergarten News January 25th - January 29th 2016

What we’re
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

In LA we will be talking about something I call "best place to learn."  This will give learners some choice in where they complete some of their assignments (at their desk, on the carpet, at a table group) and help them to self evaluate where they do their best work!  Book bags will come home tomorrow, Tuesday, and we will also add two new word wall words:  "for" and "me."  We will also begin focusing on learning how to form and write lowercase letters.

Math

We will be continuing our unit on shapes! We will keep focusing on 2D shapes and then learn how to determine between irregular and regular shapes! Don't forget about our important vocabulary such as vertices, faces and faces to help identify each shape!  Watch your e.mail this week for a fun flipped video lesson that your kids participate in at home!  Thanks!

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will continue our unit on Hibernation, Migration, and Adaptations.   Please complete the flipped classroom video by next week.  You will need to help your child log into www.pebblego.com and click on animals, click on penguins, and then look at the four different types of penguins listed.  I will send an e.mail this week with the username and password for pebblego!

In Social Studies we are finishing a unit on US Symbols and what they represent!  We are wrapping up a mini book to show what we have learned and share facts about our symbols.
Important Dates...

February 12th - Valentine's Party in classrooms @ 2:00 p.m.

February 22nd - Spring Picture Day

Snowflake Design Challenge
We thought it might be fun to have another design challenge this month for your kiddos to showcase their creative and innovative ideas!  Your child may create any kind of snowflake using whatever types of materials they like for us to display on our front bulletin board of TCE! (Paper, plastic, foil, glitter, etc.) The last day for snowflakes is this Friday, January 29th!

Six Flags Reading Logs:
Went home last week!  If your child would like to participate please keep the log and fill it out and when your 6 hours are complete you can return it to school!  Remember the hours logged can be your child reading to your or YOU reading to your child!  Either one counts!  If you need an additional log let us know and we can send one home!  If you do not know about this program your child can earn a free ticket to 6 Flags for participating!
Texans of the week:
COMING BACK SOON! :)
