Kindergarten News: January 18th - January 22nd

What we’re
Workin’ on thisweek..

Language Arts

In LA we will continue to work on our reading and writing skills!  I am so proud of all the kids and how far they have come!  We will be doing some reading and writing on penguins the next couple of weeks as well as reviewing all 20 of our word wall words!  Keep reading at home!

Math

We will be starting our new unit shapes! We will start off learning about 2D shapes and then move into learning about 3D shapes! We will learning important vocabulary such as vertices, faces and faces to help identify each shape!

Science / Social Studies

In Science we will begin a new unit on Hibernation, Migration, and Adaptations.  We will learn about these things through some interactive science stations and hands on games.  A flipped classroom lesson will be coming home next week so be on the lookout and help your child when it comes!

In Social Studies we are continuing a unit on US Symbols and what they represent!  We are working on a mini book to show what we have learned and share facts about our symbols.

Important Dates...

January 22nd - Report Cards go Home!
February 12th - Valentine's Party in classrooms @ 2:00 p.m.

Snowflake Design Challenge
We thought it might be fun to have another design challenge this month for your kiddos to showcase their creative and innovative ideas!  Your child may create any kind of snowflake using whatever types of materials they like for us to display on our front bulletin board of TCE! (Paper, plastic, foil, glitter, etc.) You can start sending in snowflakes starting on Tuesday, January 19th!
Six Flags Reading Logs:
Went home last week!  If your child would like to participate please keep the log and fill it out and when your 6 hours are complete you can return it to school!  Remember the hours logged can be your child reading to your or YOU reading to your child!  Either one counts!  If you need an additional log let us know and we can send one home!  If you do not know about this program your child can earn a free ticket to 6 Flags for participating!
