Important Information

Valentine's Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at school on Monday, February 14th! Please have your child address a Valentine card to each person in their homeroom class, and bring them to school by Monday, February 14th!

On Monday, February 14th we will celebrate with a class party from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, only 2 parents (room parents) can attend the party.

Book Bags / Library Books

No library this Monday 2/14! Your child can keep their books or go ahead and return!  We will resume library on Monday, February 28th.  
We will also be sending new reading book bags home on Tuesday, February 15th! Please keep reading these books with your child each night and return them on Fridays! Happy Reading!

Take a Peek at our Week

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we are learning how to write a "How To..." piece.  We will be sharing about things we know how to do and give simple steps to complete it!  We will transition words like: First, Next, Last.  

Phonics:
We will wrap up our unit on short VOWELS! 
We will practice hearing and recording (writing) the sounds in CVC Words such as cat, man, dot, etc..


Readers Workshop:
In Reader's Workshop we will begin a new unit on becoming AVID Readers! We will learn how to set reading goals for ourselves and work hard to reach our goals! 


Math

In Math this week, we will finish our unit on comparing teen numbers. In addition to identifying and using the vocabulary "greater" and "less," we will become experts at being able to tell what one more and one less than each number is. We will end our  unit with a fun Keynote project to show all we have learned! Be looking for that on Thursday! We will also do some fun Valentine's math activities!



Social Studies

In Social  Studies, we will be working on our citizenship qualities. We will explore the importance of friendship and how to be a good friend. We will set goals of ways we can show kindness and be friends to each other. 


Science

In Science this week, we will be wrapping up our unit on Earth Materials! We will be studying all about SOIL! We will explore different types of soil, and we will even take a few trips to our school  garden to explore the soil there!
