February 11th - 15th

What We're Working on This Week

Language Arts

This week we will continue working on our journal writing: starting with a capital letter, using spaces between words, and ending with proper punctuation! We are going to chart our writing goals in the classroom so that we can see what ares we need to grow and how we are doing!

We got some brand new books to use with our Lucy Calkins Reader's Workshop program!
Ms. Martin was so awesome to use some school funds to help us purchase new books to fill our in class book bags!  These new books are darling and the kids are really excited to start book shopping and adding new books to the book bags they keep in class! We will tweet some pictures of us reading this week!  Everyone is doing great!

Social Studies

This week we will talk about Valentine's Day and friendships and how to be a good friend to others!
We can't wait to celebrate our friendships on Valentine's Day!

Math

In Math this week we will be celebrating Valentine's all week with some fun and hands on Valentine math stations. We will be practicing writing and counting numbers, adding and subtracting, and ordering and comparing!

Science

In science this week, we will be finishing our unit on natural resources. We will review how we have learned about rocks, soil, and water. We will reflect on ways they resources help us live!

We are so excited to celebrate Valentine's Day in Kindergarten! Your homeroom teacher has sent home a list of the learners in your child's class. Please have your child address a Valentine card to each child in their class. They may bring these cards to school Monday, February 11th through Thursday, February 14th. We will celebrate with a party on February 14th and 2:00pm. All parents are welcome to join!

Six Flags Reading Logs

Keep Reading and recording your hours so that you can earn a free ticket to Six Flags over Texas this summer! Return Book Logs as soon as you have completed your hours!

Final date to return book logs is February 19th!

A Note from PE

The American Heart Association and the Heart Heroes visited our school last week to kick-off Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart)! Students enjoyed a 3D ride through Heartsville (view it here), which reminds us of how easy it can be to take care of our hearts. We hope you will join us as we work together to support the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association by downloading the Kids Heart Challenge App or going to www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge to register, take a healthy challenge, and start fundraising!

Together our students are working to help others and are learning how to keep their own hearts healthy. Our goal is to raise $20,000 as a campus, and if we do, we can earn brand new PE Equipment and Supplies for our school and students to use! PLUS, ANY student who has raised $150+ online by 11:59 pm central on February 13th will earn the PLUSH FINN and be recognized as a special Town Center Heart Hero over the morning announcements on February 14th!

TCE Cultural Night

A note is coming home in your child's folder today about our 2nd annual TCE Cultural Night. If you have anything you would like to share with our school for Cultural Night, please return the bottom portion of the form.
