What We're Working on This Week:
First Grade Curriculum:
Language Arts
This week in Language Arts we will get a new writing checklist to include transition words and opening and closing sentences. We will also begin a new unit in spelling that focuses on words that have the long a sound with final silent e (CVCe). We will begin reading aloud books on Fall and Autumn and continue to work on making connections to the text with ourself, other texts, and the world.
Social Studies
We will continue our unit on government! We will keep learning about symbols that represent our country and talk about voting and rights!
Math
In math this week, we will continuing our learning about comparing numbers. We will learn to look at the tens place first and then the ones place before comparing numbers. We will be able to use the vocabulary "greater than," "less than," and "equal to" like pros! We will also look at ordering numbers from greatest to least and least to greatest.

Science
This week in science we will be continuing our unit all about Energy, Force, and Motion. We will be exploring all about magnetism! We will learn how magnets can help push and pull objects. We will explore all about magnets through many fun hands-on experiments!

Monday: My Team Needs Me to Be Drug Free! Wear TCE Spirit Wear.
Tuesday: The Best Me is Drug Free! Wear an outfit that represents a healthy activity you enjoy (jersey/sport uniform, scout uniform, tae kwon do, a team you like to cheer for, etc.)
Wednesday: Put a Cap on Drugs! Wear any hat! (ball cap, crazy hat, etc.)
Thursday: Follow your Dreams, Be Drug Free! Wear your pajamas.
Friday: We Choose to Be Drug Free! Wear red for the Red Ribbon Run

Service Learning
It's that time of the year!! Kindergarten is hosting it's annual shoe drive for our service learning project. We will be donating the shoes to the Salvation Army. Please bring any used shoes for our donation! We will have a collection box in A hall. Thank you!
