What We Are Learning! 

Language Arts:

This week in Readers Workshop we will continue our study on reading storybooks! We are practicing reading the pictures and the words and making our words match the pictures! 

In Writer's Workshop we will learn two SIGHT WORDS!  We call these words SNAP words because once we learn them we want to know them in a SNAP!  We will focus on the words "I" and "like." Then we will learn out to write a sentence that begins with "I like...."  We are doing an awesome job writing! 

In Phonics we will continue to work on letter sounds and talk about how to LEARN and know a letter!

This week we will continue to practice writing and representing numbers!  We learned so much last week and we are doing awesome at writing our numbers the correct way!  We are also going to begin comparing numbers.  We will talk about one more, one less, greater, less, and equal!  

Science:

This week in science, we will be learning all about properties of objects. 

We will observe and compare the differences between heavy and light! 

Social Studies: 

We will continue our study about rules!  

We will learn about authority figures in our homes, schools,  and. communities!

For Virtual Students:

-Please remember that all work must be completed on the day it was assigned prior to 11:59 p.m. to 

receive credit.  

-Please be sure your child is participating in the specials courses as well as the core subject areas! 

For Face to Face Students: 

-Please send your I Pad to school each day fully charged! 

-Please remember a snack and a full water bottle every day!

-Please put names in jackets and sweaters as the weather cools down!

Frequently Asked Questions from Curriculum Night:

Can we use headphones, etc from the school supplies set?

If your child will continue learning virtually after September 8th, please use the materials from the School Supply Pack as directed. They are welcome to use their headphones to help create a quiet learning environment for them to best learn.

Is there a textbook to follow through the year?

We do not have a specific text book that our learners will use. We use follow the CISD Scope and Sequence which can be found in the "Course Information" folder in each Schoology Course. We will use curriculum resources like Lucy Calkin's Readers and Writers Workshop as a means of following this Scope and Sequence.

What constitutes a tardy for online learning? What happens if an assignment is turned in late?

Online learners are able to access and submit the content until 11:59 pm that same day. A learner's attendance is tracked through engagement and submission of lessons daily, therefore there is not a tardy system for virtual learners. 

If a learner were to turn in an assignment after 11:59 pm, engagement for that content area would be missing for that same day. 

As a parent, how can I help make the transition into face to face school go smoothly?

We are excited about welcoming back some of our learners face to face next week. We suggest preparing your learner by telling them what to expect on Tuesday.  Parents will not be able to walk students down the classrooms on Tuesday morning so please let them know that you will say goodbye to them at the car and a teacher will walk them down to Mrs. Torti, Mrs. Brehm, or Miss Rice. They will be wearing a mask during the day aside from scheduled outdoor mask breaks so it would be good to practice wearing over the weekend too if they are not comfortable with it.  We will be eating lunch in the cafeteria at 10:30 a.m. You can send a lunch from home or buy a school lunch.  Click HERE to see our cafeteria lunch menu. Please be sure to send a peanut free snack in their backpack, a water bottle, and a change of clothes!

What We Are Learning! 

Language Arts:

This week in Readers Workshop we will practice ways that we can sound like a teacher when we read!  We will learn the importance of reading and re-reading all our old favorite stories!  

In Writer's Workshop we will learn two SIGHT WORDS!  We call these words SNAP words because once we learn them we want to know them in a SNAP!  We will also continue to draw and label pictures to share our ideas on paper.  

In Phonics we will continue to work on letter sounds and talk about how to LEARN and know a letter! 

*We will also be getting a new app this week, I STATION! 

You will get instructions in your Schoology Course for Reading on Wednesday!

Math:

This week we will learn about writing and representing our numbers. We will learn how to correctly write our numbers, and we will learn that there are SO many ways to represent our numbers! Our Kindergarten mathematicians are laying a great foundation for their future Math learning.

Science:

This week in science, we will be learning all about properties of objects. We will learn about things like size, shape, color, and texture. We will learn how good scientists use those properties to classify objects and materials! 

Social Studies: 

We will continue our study about rules!  We will learn about the difference between rules and laws. We will become experts about these differences and be able to apply this skill to our real lives.

We will continue to enjoy books and see ourselves as readers.  In Phonics we will begin to focus on letter sounds!   In Writer's Workshop we will continue with writing our date and putting our ideas on paper through pictures and words.  We will begin to label our ideas (pictures) using beginning sounds or words! 

Math:

This week we will continue to learn about subitizing! Subitizing means to instantly recognize a group of objects. We will also learn about counting strategies! 

Science:

This week we will be learning about the 5 Senses! 

See, Touch, Taste, Hear, and Smell 

Social Studies: 

We will continue our study about RULES!  The rules of home, school, and our community!  

We will learn the rules of keeping one another safe from illness!

What We Are Learning! 

Language Arts:

This week in Reading and Writing we will learn about how we can see ourselves as readers and writers. We will introduce Reader's and Writer's Workshop! It's going to be a great week! 

Math:

This week we will learn about subitizing! Subitizing means to instantly recognize a group of objects. Knowing this skill will help us to become better Mathematicians. 

Science:

This week we will be learning about what a Scientist does and different types of Scientist. We will learn about the tools Scientist use to help them. 

Social Studies: 

We will learn all about RULES!  The rules of home, school, and our community!  We will also learn about digital citizenship and meet our new friend, Technology Ted!

Virtual Kindergarten - Frequently Asked Questions!  

Welcome to Kindergarten! We hope this post is helpful in answering some questions you might have on starting kindergarten virtually! 

How do I pick up my School Supplies? 

-TCE will be having a drive thru pick up today, Friday August 14th from 10-11 or 2-3.  You are welcome to drive thru the car loop line and pick up your school supplies and grade level t shirts.  This is an optional pickup and we will have more opportunities throughout virtual learning.  If you choose to pick up your supplies please keep them all together so that you will have them ready to bring to school when you choose to return face to face.  More info on Ms. Martin's principal newsletter 

How do I get the Schoology App (or any Apps) on my child's iPad?

-Student iPads do not have an "App Store" app on them!  You will use an app called "MANAGER" to search for and download other apps.  Look for the Manager App and use it to download Schoology!  The manager looks like this:  

How do I find my child's classwork and classes in Schoology? 

-First download the Schoology app from Manager on your child's CISD iPad.

or use the web version of Schoology by going to http://schoology.coppellisd.com

-Using the web version of Schoology is usually a little more "user-friendly," but we want you to have access to both versions!

-You will follow your child's schedule of classes (coming soon to an e.mail near you!) and work through the courses in that order each day! 

How do I log into Schoology?

-To log into Schoology you will enter your CHILD's username and password. 

-The username is a series of 3 letters and 4 numbers that will look something like this: 

lwt1920 (example only) the password for all kindergarten students is 12345678. 

-Once you log in you will choose "Courses" from the drop down menu to see the classes your child is enrolled in! 

What time will my child be on "LIVE" Zoom each day? 

- For the FIRST week of school only your child will get on Zoom at these times: 

7:50, 9:30, and 1:20.  

-The links to the Zooms will be found in the "HOMEROOM HUB" folder in Schoology.  

-The HOMEROOM HUB folder will be found inside a course, see below

    K1 - Torti = Reading and Writing Course -  Homeroom Hub Folder

    K2 - Brehm = Science Course - Homeroom Hub Folder

    K3 - Rice = Math Course - Homeroom Hub Folder

*They will also have a chance to Zoom with their Specials Teachers. They will communicate this to you! 

What will take place on the Zoom Meetings? 

-During the first week of school our Zoom meetings will be mostly about getting to know one another and getting to know all the kindergarten teachers. We will spend time building classroom community, playing games, and learning all about our school! After the first week we will be doing more curriculum connections and lessons during the live Zooms.  

What if I can't get on the Zoom during that time? 

-All of the Zoom Meetings will be recorded and the videos will be available for you to watch in Schoology.  All the first week of School Zoom Videos will be found in the Homeroom Hub Folders. 

-If you can't get on then don't worry,  just watch the video later!
