ABC Countdown

We can't believe our final days of Kindergarten are approaching!! To celebrate the end of the year, we will be doing an ABC Countdown to the last day of school! Each day will be a different letter and different fun activity to celebrate all of our fun times in Kindergarten!!


TCE Terrific Texans

Last week we started a school-wide recognition called Terrific Texan. Throughout the week the learners can earn a Terrific Texan Ticket for outstanding citizenship, leadership and behavior from any teacher in the school. Each time that they earn a ticket they add it to our Kindergarten box. At the end of the day on Friday, Ms. Martin will draw 3 names from each grade to read over the announcements! A new round of earning tickets will begin next week! Keep up the great work!



Author Visit

We are so excited to have the author, Nancy Churnin, is coming to TCE to visit with our learners on April 26th. She is an award-winning children's book author who writes about people who have made the world a better place.

She will sign copies of her books for learners. This is optional, but if you are interested in purchasing one of her books through Amazon or a book seller, please send it to school with a sticky note including your child's name and homeroom class by Tuesday, April 25th. Mrs. Mancuso will collect books from homeroom teachers.

May 6 Bond Election Information

Coppell ISD residents, who are registered to vote may cast a ballot in the May 6 Bond Election. Voters will be asked to vote "FOR" or "AGAINST" the $321.5 million bond measure on May 6. In accordance with state law, the bond referendum will be presented as four separate propositions.

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will learn about "Opinion Writing."  We will learn how to state our opinion on a topic and use reasons to back up what we think!  We will focus on giving our opinions on Cats vs. Dogs!  We will do some research, read some fiction and non-fiction books, and then state our opinions in our writing journals! 



Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will read a picture book each day to go with our letter of the day from end of kindergarten ABC countdown!  For example, Monday's letter will be "B" so we will read the book: "Bruce's Big Move" by Ryan T. Higgins.  On Tuesday and Wednesday for the letters C and D we will read the books above that go with our writing unit ("Cats vs. Dogs" and "Dog vs. Cat)!  



We will also continue working on our reading workshop stations and building stamina in our reading!  Everyone is doing a great job!  Keep up the reading at home!  

Phonics Workshop and SNAP Words:
This week we will continue to review beginning and ending sounds in words and then begin our review of middle vowel sounds as well!  Students will also continue learning our high frequency words and will add some more to our list!  Here is a list you can use over the summer and for the remainder of the school year to practice and learn high frequency "SNAP" Words.



Math

In Math this week, we will be continuing our learning all about shapes! We will continue to learn about 3D shapes and their attributes. We will learn vocabulary terms like faces, edges, and vertices to describe our 3D shapes. We will be able to sort and classify these shapes, and on Friday we will hold a special "3D Shapes Museum" of real world example of 3D shapes! 


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week, we will be starting a new unit on Needs and Wants.  We will learn how to identify the difference between a basic Need and something you might Want
 YAY!! to the Kindergarten Friends that have turned in their phone/address form. I love that you are able to recite/memorize your phone number and address! A personalized letter is coming soon!  It's not too late to turn in phone/address form!   


Science

In Science, we will be studying about Animal & Plant Habitats.  We will learn where animal and plants live, and how living things survive (food, grow, reproduce) from their habitats.

Kindergarten "Down on the Farm" Petting Zoo!

We are SO excited for our Kindergarten "Come to you" Field Trip on April 21st! We will be having a Kindergarten Day on the Farm complete with a petting zoo! Please send in your signed permission slip so your child can participate in this fun event! If your child wants to dress in "farm" attire (overalls, boots, cowboy hats, etc.), they are MORE than welcome to!!

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue with our new "first grade writing journals!" We will focus on adding details and "writing more." Everyone is gaining so much confidence in their writing and I am so proud of them!

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will work on extending our reading and focusing on building stamina and reading for longer amounts of time. We will add some layers to our reader's workshop in order to give students a variety of ways and activities to continue to build their reading skills.
Thanks so much for reading book bag books at home! It makes such a difference!

We will also read some fiction and non-fiction books about animals on the farm.  We will discuss the characteristics of non-fiction text and write some of our own non-fiction too! 

Math

In Math this week, we will be learning all about shapes! Last week we reviewed 2D shapes and their attributes, and this week we will apply that learning to 3D shapes! We will learn vocabulary terms like faces, edges, and vertices to describe our 3D shapes. We will also become experts at finding real-world examples of these shapes! 


Social Studies
 

Earth Day is April 22nd!   We will be celebrating Earth Day this week by showing how we can keep our planet from pollution, our water clean, and saving endangered animals, and plants.  We will learn how it is our job to make sure our Earth stays clean and healthy! It will be a Fun Week caring for our EARTH! 

Science

In Science this week, we will be studying the Life Cycles of Butterflies, Penguins, Chickens, and Frogs to better understand how living things can grow and change.  A life cycle is a series of stages a living thing goes through during its life.  We are so excited to see real baby animals at our "Down on the Farm "Petting Zoo on Friday!

In Math this week, we will be learning all about personal finance. Now that we have become experts about coins and their values, we will learn about what  to do with money! We will begin exploring topics like earning an income, saving, and spending money on wants and needs. 


Social Studies

For Social Studies this week, we will continue our unit on Geography! We will review our knowledge about maps and globes by creating a neighborhood map with a Map Key.  We will use a Map Key to identify/represent the places on our Map.  


Science

In Science this week we will be learning how Living Things Produce Offspring.  We will learn to recognize that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents. We will identify and compare baby animals with adult animals.

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue with our new "first grade writing journals!"  The kids were so excited to start then last week!  We learned how to write inside the lines on new lined paper and made our first journal entry!  I am so proud of all of them!  Everyone did a great job! 

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will talk about reading all different types of text! 


Math

In Math this week, we will be learning all about money! We will become an expert about each of the types of coins. We will learn the names of each coin, what is on the front and back of each coin, and how much each coin is worth. We will do some fun math workshop stations to practice all of our new learning! 


Social Studies

For Social Studies this week, we will continue our unit on Geography!  We have loved learning about Maps/Globes and Directions. We have been playing a game called Never East Soggy Waffles!!!  They are all amazing at this game!  We will continue to learn about Geography by making Map Keys, and how we can create our own symbols.  Also check out Keynotes for our Map!


Science

For Science next week, we will be discussing the "Needs" of Living Things.  We will continue working on our Keynote - Living and Non Living Things.  Weather should be great next week to visit our TCE garden to take photos and record our information.  We are becoming experts on Living and Non Living Things!

Mid Year Assessment Data: M-Class and Winter MAP

On Monday, March 6th your child will bring home information about their mid year assessments on both MAP testing and M-Class. SAVE - The - DATE for OPEN HOUSE!


Please save the date for Open House on Thursday, March 9th @ 5:30 p.m. for our Spring Open House! The Kindergarten students have been working so hard on some special items to showcase for you in each of our content areas! You will also have an opportunity to visit the spring Scholastic Book Fair in the library as well as the TCE Art Show in the gym/cafeteria! This is such a special event for all students and an awesome time for your student to show off all the hard work and effort they put in each day!

Parents are invited to shop with their children before school Monday, March 6th - Friday March 10th starting at 7:20 a.m. and after school Monday - Thursday until 3:30 p.m. Learners who are shopping independently will shop during their recess.

The book fair will be open during Open House on Thursday, March 9th from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
This week in Writer's Workshop we will continue with the writing process:
brainstorm, plan, write, revise, publish!
We are working on a few published pieces to show off at our spring open house! Our theme is
Kinder-Garden so we have been reading and writing about gardens! Our writing has grown and bloomed so much this year! We can't wait to show you!

Reader's Workshop:
This week in Reader's workshop we will review our skills previously learned and practice building stamina in our reading. We will try reading for longer amounts of time and working on different types of texts such as fiction, non-fiction, and even some poetry!




Math

In Math this week, we will be doing some FUN crafts and activities to showcase all of our learning about addition and subtraction! We will be working on some special projects to show our learning at Open House. We can't wait to show our families all of our hard work!! I'm so very proud of all of our Kindergarten math problem solvers! 


Social Studies

For Social Studies this week, we will continue our new unit on Geography! We will learn how to locate places at school, home, and our community. We loved drawing a Map of our Classroom!
PLEASE RETURN:  "Get to Know Me" form for our Class Book.  Due March 6th.  DON'T FORGET TO RETURN LIBRARY BOOK!

Science

For Science the next few weeks, we will be learning about Living and Non Living Things.  We will begin the unit with being able to differentiate between Living and Non Living Things. Living Things eat, grow, breath, and move on their own, whereas Non Living things do not.
