Important Information

Picture Day/Picture Retakes - October 13th

The Lifetouch photographers are returning Wednesday, October 13th to take photos of all learners returning face-to-face that were virtual. These are the photos that will be in the Town Center yearbook, so every child will have their photo taken even if they are not purchasing a picture package. We will send home picture order forms for our learners returning on October 12th. You are also able to order online at mylifetouch.com. Our school code is EVTP7CBJ2.

If any of our face-to-face learners would like picture retake, please make sure your child and their homeroom teacher know. We will include them on this day!

Boosterthon Fun Run

We're two weeks away from our TCE Fun Run Fundraiser! Our goal is to raise $15,000 for PTO funds that support classroom grants and school resources. Our fundraising event will be a "fun run" during the school day on October 21st. All families get to participate in the TCE Fun Run event day, regardless of financial participation. Registration is officially open on mybooster.com.

1. Register your child(ren) on mybooster.com. It is free and takes 30 seconds!

*We have an incentive for each classroom that gets all students registered by October 13th!*

2. Share with 5 family/friends using the share tools on mybooster.com (Facebook, Text Message, or Email). Students will earn rewards just for sharing from mybooster.com.

3. Give a donation if you are able to give. You can pledge money per lap or just a flat donation--every bit makes a difference!

A few things to know about the fundraiser:
All families can support our school either by donating, sharing on funrun.com, or both.
Students can receive rewards when parents share from mybooster.com
All students get to participate in the TCE Fun Run event day, regardless of financial participation.
This fundraiser comes with an incredible character development program for students where they'll be learning about the importance of teamwork, care, courage, grit, and celebration. Our campus is working hard to make this fundraiser safe, fun, and successful for everyone!

Reading Rainbow BINGO Cards


This year Kindergarten has an opportunity to participate in a reading challenge called the Rainbow Reading Bingo Challenge!  Please look in your child's green take home folder for more information! The kids are so excited about this and are ready to earn their reading rainbow bracelets!

What We Are Learning:

Language Arts

In Writing Workshop this week we will continue writing a sentence in our journals! Our sentence will be an "I like...." sentence and we will illustrate a picture that matches our words. We will learn about how sentences begin with a capital letter, end with a period, and have spaces between words! We we will also get two new SNAP Words: "said" and "we."

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We are also learning about the difference between letters, words, and sentences. We are learning about how letters make up words and words make up sentences.

In Reading we will focus on how re-reading storybooks can help us to learn more!


Math

In Math this week, we will begin diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on subitizing and counting to 10. This means being able to instantly recognize a group of objects up  to 10. It also means that when given a group of counters, your child will be able to correctly count how many there are!  Here is a fun subiziting song to put your skills to the test:


Science

In Science this week, we will begin a new unit on 
"How Things Move"
We will learn about force and motion (push and pull) and discuss speed, directionality, etc.

Social Studies

We will learn about patriotic holidays in our country and in others!

What We Are Learning:

Language Arts

In Writing Workshop this week we will continue writing a sentence in our journals! Our sentence will be an "I like...." sentence and we will illustrate a picture that matches our words. We will learn about how sentences begin with a capital letter, end with a period, and have spaces between words!

In Reading Workshop we will begin a unit on Re-Reading to Learn More! 

Library Day is Monday! Bring your books back! 

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We are also learning about the difference between letters, words, and sentences. We are learning about how letters make up words and words make up sentences. 


Math

In Math this week, we will continue our learning about comparing numbers! We will learn the words greater, less, and equal. We will be able to compare numbers, pictures, and objects! We will also be able to name numbers that are greater, less, and equal to a given number.


Science

In Science this week, we will learn about ENERGY. We will learn about heat, light, and sound energy. We will explore natural and manmade sources of each of these types of energy. This week we are focusing on LIGHT energy.


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will continue to learn about jobs in our homes, schools, and communities!

In Reading Workshop we will continue our unit on being storybook readers! We will be going back to the library on Monday so please send library books back to school on Monday! 

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We are also learning about the difference between letters, words, and sentences. We are learning about how letters make up words and words make up sentences.

In Math this week, we will be take what we have learned about numbers and start comparing! We will learn the words greater, less, and equal. We will be able to compare numbers, pictures, and objects!

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Writing Workshop this week we will begin writing a sentence in our journals!  Our sentence will be an "I like...." sentence and we will illustrate a picture that matches our words.  We will learn about how sentences begin with a capital letter, end with a period, and have spaces between words! 

In Reading Workshop we will continue our unit on being storybook readers! We will be getting book bags for in class reading and we will visit the library on Monday! 

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent!
We have learned almost all the letter sounds and are continuing to practice them!



Math

In Math this week, we will be learning about writing and representing our numbers! We will learn how to correctly write each of our numbers. We will also learn that numbers can be represented in OTHER ways, like in a ten frame, tally marks, or even as a word! 



Science

In Science this week, we will continue to learn about how heating and cooling can change an object. We will learn about melting and freezing. We will do several fun experiments to observe melting and freezing! This week we will be taking a special "field trip" to our cafeteria's walk-in freezer to see what happens when things get really REALLY cold! 




Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will begin to learn about jobs in our homes, schools, and communities! We will discuss community helpers around our community!

Important Information

Headphones

We will be starting many assessments and activities using our iPads soon, and these will need good working headphones. Please check with your child to see if they need a working set of headphones! A lot of the ones that came in the supply pack are not working well or have already been broken. If you need some suggestions for ones to get, here and here are some we have seen work well!



Breakfast

Breakfast is free for all elementary learners. If you would like for your child to get a breakfast from the cafeteria, please have your child at school between 7:20 and 7:25. This allows them plenty of time to eat breakfast in the cafeteria without missing any valuable class time!

Masks

Our Coppell ISD Board of Trustees has mandated masks at all indoor facilities in CISD until September 27th . Please talk to your child about the proper way to wear a mask and please send a mask with them to school each day. September 13th - 17th

Welcome to our Kindergarten blog! Each week we will update this with important information, reminders, dates for your calendar, plus a peek into our week! Thank you for taking the time to read it.

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

In Writing Workshop this week we will continue using labels (words) to tell part of our story! We will also start our word folder which is a folder that helps us learn our high frequency words! This week we will learn the words: I, like, can.  

In Reading Workshop we will begin talking about reading "old storybook favorites." We will learn that when we read books again and again we can tell the story ourselves!

In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent! 
We have learned almost all the letter sounds and are continuing to practice them! 


Math

In Math this week, we will be learning about SUBITIZING! Subitizing is a fundamental skill in Math. It means to instantly recognize a structure arrangement - here is a video below! See if you can subitize like our Kindergartners! 


Science

In Science this week, we will learn about how heating and cooling can change an object. We will learn about melting and freezing. We will do several fun experiments to observe melting and freezing!


Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will continue to learn about "Me and My World." We will learn about authority figures in our homes, schools, and communities.  This week we will discuss why these authority figures give us rules and why they are important for us to follow!

9/11 First Responders Day:
On Friday, September 10th we read a book called "Fireboat."  This is a positive story that tells about some of the many heroes of 9/11.  We did not get into any details of the day! I simply shared the book with them (which is a true story) and shared about the people who helped that day!

Week of September 7th - 10th

What We Are Learning

Language Arts

 In Writing Workshop this week we will begin to use labels (words) to tell part of our story!  As we create stories using pictures and words we will learn how labels help to give the reader more information about the writing! 
 In Reading Workshop we will continue to talk about how we are all readers and we can "Look, Think, Read, and LEARN!" We will talk about how readers can learn from books too and how re-reading helps us to learn more! 
In Phonics we will continue to talk about the common sounds that letters represent! We are doing such a great job learning our letter sounds on our apple poem!




Math

In Math this week, we will be learning  about our counting  strategies. We will learn strategies  for counting a collection of  objects correctly. We will also set  up our Dreambox accounts. Dreambox is an app that we will use to practice all of our amazing Math skills! Your children are welcome to play on Dreambox at home, but it is not a requirement!



Science

In Science this week, we will continue learning about properties of objects. We will learn that objects can be sorted and classified by their properties (like size, color, shape, and texture). We will sort many different objects according to their properties.



Social Studies

In Social Studies this week we will continue to learn about "Me and My World." We will learn about authority figures in our homes, schools, and communities.
