Book Bags / Library Books

Don't forget to return your book bags and library books by Monday! The learners will be able to check out a new library book on Monday to keep for the entire winter break. Book Bags will resume after the winter break.



Winter Fun Day / Winter Party

On Thursday, December 16th, we will have a Winter Fun Day in Kindergarten with our Winter Party at the end of the day! Thank you to our room moms for organizing the party!! To make it EXTRA fun, the kinds are welcome to wear their jammies to school!

Gingerbread Fun

The Kindergarteners had some extra holiday fun in Mrs. Brehm's class this week! They decorated a life-size gingerbread house. Now they are having fun reading winter books inside!

Reading Rainbow - Orange Bingo Card Books:

This week in library, Mrs. Mancuso read us a book about Hanukkah! Feel free to mark off this space on your orange BINGO card! Happy Reading! 

Coppell High School Madrigals 

This morning we had a special visit from the Coppell High School Madrigal Choir!  The kids LOVED it! They were so excited to see the students in costume and singing holiday songs!!!

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
We will keep practicing our journal writing!  We are really focusing on leaving a space between words, starting with a capital letter and ending with a period! 

Phonics:
We will continue to focus on the ending sounds of words! 

Readers Workshop:
We have started a new unit on being SUPER READERS! We are getting many different reading super powers to help us read!  
New Book Bag Books will come home Monday!  If you did not return your book bag on Friday please send it Monday! 


Math

In Math this week, we will build on our composing and decomposing skills. We will begin learning about addition and subtraction! We will learn about using different strategies for addition and subtraction. We will learn to use counters, draw pictures, use a number line, and use our fingers for addition and subtraction. 

Science

For the next couple of weeks, we will continue weather and seasons. We will discuss what we should wear during each season! We will learn about Meteorologist and how they observe/forecast the weather.

Happy Thanksgiving - 2021

 

Happy Thanksgiving Kindergarten Families - We loved learning about gratitude this week and sharing some things we are thankful for!  We feasted with our friends and trotted like turkeys and now we are ready for a break!  

We are so thankful for all of you this year!  We hope you enjoy next week with your family and friends and loved ones!  We will miss our sweet kindergarten friends and can't wait to have them back at school on Monday, November 29th!

Language Arts

Writer's Workshop:
We will continue to practice writing two sentences in our journal! We will keep practicing how to use capital letters, spaces between words, and ending punctuation. We are working hard to get all of our letters similar in size and sitting on line.

Phonics:
We will continue to focus on the ending sounds of words! We have been working with CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) and focusing on the beginning sounds! Now we will move to the ending sounds of words!

Readers Workshop:
We will keep practicing reading our book bag books,  SNAP Word Cards, and reading books in Raz Kids!
Please review all of our SNAP Words at home:
I, like, can, see, a, said, we, go, are, but,  not, am, the, little 



Math

In Math this week, we will continue building our numeracy skills. This week we will be introduced to the skill of composing and decomposing numbers! This is SO exciting! We will learn about how we can break apart and put numbers together in different ways. For example, 5 can be broken a part into 1 and 4, but it can also be broken into 2 and 3.


Science

For the next couple of weeks, we will be observing weather. We will discuss day-to-day changes, patterns, and seasons. We will learn about Meteorologist and how they observe/forecast the weather. If possible, please share with your child, a weather report (news) where a Meteorologist predicts the weather.


Scientist of the Week:
Mrs. Brehm has really enjoyed "Scientist of the Week" experiments! I love how each "Scientist" explores their knowledge of Science and has such engaging experiments for us!! It is so fun to watch them present their experiments with such enthusiasm and excitement!! It makes me so happy to see these FUTURE Scientist at work!

Social Studies

We will be sharing about past and present Thanksgiving traditions and families. We will learn how we traveled, clothing we wore, food, and schools in the past to the present. Look for upcoming Family Traditions Project to share with our Kindergarten Classes during the month of December.

Veteran's Day

We are excited to acknowledge and celebrate our veterans next week. In lieu of a ceremony this year, our Cub Scouts from Pack 850 will greet our learners in the morning and several will help present on our morning announcements at 7:45 AM. Our morning announcements can be accessed using our KTEX Youtube Channel. Click here to access.

We also would love for you to email us pictures of any family or friends that are veterans in order for us to include them in our video. Please send any pictures to jmartin@coppellisd.com by noon on Wednesday, November 10th.

In October, a Red Bingo card was sent home. Each time your child turns in the completed colored card (Books they read), they earn a jibbitz bracelet and a charm to add to the bracelet. In May, if your child has completed all Rainbow colored cards, they will get an INVITE to attend a SPECIAL PARTY!

Last week we learned how to read books on Raz Kids (an app on our I Pads)!! Yay!  Raz Kids or 
Kids A to Z is a great way for students to read books on their levels!  I will send home your child's log in card today and they can show you how it works!  Right now we are only reading books in Reading and Level Up! 


Math

In Math this week, we will continue diving deeper into our numeracy skills. This week we will focus on comparing numbers to 10. We will compare number, pictures, and amounts up to 10. We will also be able to identify the number that is 1 more and 1 less than a given number. We will learn that we can use number lines to help us with comparing numbers.



Science

Next week we will be discussing the patterns of the world such as Day / Night and the SKY.  We will observe objects in the sky and learn how they help us have recognizable patterns when the weather changes day to day and over seasons. 

Scientist of the Week:
Our scientists this week did an awesome job!  We are having so much fun learning from our friends and doing fun experiments!

Social Studies

We are so proud of all the Kindergarten Kiddos for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.  We get to participate in saying the pledges every day during morning announcements.  Kindergarten will be responsible for morning announcements during the month of February and we will be able to recite the two pledges in front of TCE!   
Next week we will be identifying contributions of Texas historical figures Stephen F. Austin and Jose' Antonio Navarro and how they were instrumental in changes for Texas.

We will learn how to use and read our ABC Chart! This ABC Chart will help us with letter names and sounds. It will be a great resource for reading and writing!


Readers Workshop:
We will keep working on our unit Readers Can Read.... We will discuss the different things we can read from in Reader's Workshop (book bag books, SNAP Word Cards, ABC Chart, RaZZ Kids). We will learn and set expectations for personal reading and partner reading.




Math

What objects around the room are magnetic?
We will also go on a magnet scavenger hunt! 

Scientist of the Week:
I am looking forward to our Scientist of the Week! All students will get an opportunity to share an experiment with their class throughout the year. I will send home information with the "Scientist" the Friday before the experiment is due.  Here are our scientist this week:

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we will be learn how to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. We will read the "The Flag We Love" and think about where we see the USA and Texas Flag.  This is how we demonstrate our patriotism.
