What We're Working on This Week
Language Arts
This week we will be working on and reviewing our 1st 30 Word Wall Words! We are doing great! You will get home an assessment to show which words your child needs a little help with, please help at home! :) . Here are the 30 we have learned so far:
We will continue to use the writing process and set writing goals to help us become better writers!
Everyone is writing so well! We just got our new "First Grade Journals" this week and the kids are loving them! We can't wait to show off to you at Open House!
We will read both fiction and non-fiction books about Penguins to tie into our Science unit. We will be learning how to write our own fiction piece, non-fiction piece, and poetry about penguins too!

Social Studies
We will be starting a new unit on geography and places around our world! We will start by incorporating our unit of study on penguins and mapping places that different types of penguins live all over the world!
Math
In Math this week, we will become experts about coins! Last week we learned the different types of coins. We will do some fun, hands-on math stations to practice learning about these coins. We will also be making some fun digital projects to show off our learning. Here is one of our FAVORITE coin videos:
Science
In Science, we are excited to begin exploring Life Science! We will spend the next few weeks learning all about one of our favorite animals - the PENGUIN! We will learn about the penguin's life cycle, habitat, and how it survives! We are loving learning about these cute creatures!

A Note from PE
The American Heart Association and the Heart Heroes visited our school last week to kick-off Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart)! Students enjoyed a 3D ride through Heartsville (view it here), which reminds us of how easy it can be to take care of our hearts. We hope you will join us as we work together to support the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association by downloading the Kids Heart Challenge App or going to www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge to register, take a healthy challenge, and start fundraising!
Together our students are working to help others and are learning how to keep their own hearts healthy. Our goal is to raise $20,000 as a campus, and if we do, we can earn brand new PE Equipment and Supplies for our school and students to use! PLUS, ANY student who has raised $150+ online by 11:59 pm central on February 13th will earn the PLUSH FINN and be recognized as a special Town Center Heart Hero over the morning announcements on February 14th!

TCE's 2nd Annual Culture Night
We are excited to have our 2nd annual Culture Night at TCE. Last year was such a great success with all the dishes you shared with our TCE community. If you would like to share an appetizer, main dish or dessert on March 28th please sign up below. We will get back with you with more specific details as the event grows near. TCE will provide sample cups to share the dish you bring. This event was successful because of all of our families' contributions. Thank you for making our school so great!
Be on the lookout for more information about this event including performances and interactive stations!
A Note from Our Librarian...
Volunteers needed for Book Fair! The Spring Book Fair is coming soon, and we need parent/community volunteers* to help with Book Fair Preview on February 28, March 1st, & March 4th and run cash registers, tidy/restock shelves, and help customers find things during the actual Book Fair week, March 4th-8th. We also need several volunteers to help with Book Fair set-up and tear down on February 27th and March 8th. We appreciate community support to continue this exciting tradition and consumer/financial literacy learning experience for our learners! Please sign-up for an available time slot at this link:
*Volunteers must have an approved Coppell ISD background check on file before you will be permitted to help with Book Fair. A new background check is required each school year. You should submit the form at least a week before volunteering. You can find the background check form at this link: https://www.coppellisd.com/domain/17
