Last Week of 2019!!

Hi Kindergarten Families!
We just wanted to include a few announcements and updates for this busy and festive week!

Polar Express Day

On December 18th, we will be having a Polar Express day with all of Kindergarten and 1st grade. To make the day even more cozy, the kids can wear their pajamas to school that day! They are welcome to wear comfy slippers during the day, but please send tennis shoes for PE and Recess.

Winter Party

Our Kindergarten Room Moms have worked so hard to plan a FUN winter party for our classes! Our party is December 19th at 2:00. Parents are welcome to attend this event in our classrooms! If you would simply like to come to the party and be there with just your child then you can sign in at the office as a visitor. However if you would like to help the room moms and teachers with a station or game or snack then you will need a background check on file. We wanted to let you know in advance about the background check so that you would have plenty of time to fill one out and have it approved. HERE is the link for a background check.

Also, please know that per school policy we cannot accept or pass out any treats, snacks, gift bags, or other type items during or at the winter party aside from the party snack.

Early Release

We will have early release on Friday, December 20th at 12:15. Please make arrangements to pick up your child then!

Giving Tree and Food Drive

Kindergarten and 1st grade are hosting a Toy and Canned Food drive! Please consider donating to make someone's holiday season a little cheerier. We will be accepting donations until Thursday, December 19th.

Each year Town Center Elementary has a yearbook that includes an individual photo of every Town Center student and all class pictures. It also includes fun pictures from school events throughout the year. If you would like to purchase one, visit https://www.balfour.com/student-info?smi=98688. What We're Working on This Week

Language Arts:

This week we will wrap up our unit on Poetry and begin to read some books and stories about Mother's Day!  We love to celebrate Mom's!

We will also have a 40 WORD WALL WORDS CELEBRATION!
Keep working on those words at home too! See if you can
read them and write them or make flash cards!

We are working on our end of the year assessments! Everyone has grown so much!
We are so proud of them! Keep reading at home!

Social Studies:

We will continue our unit on Economics!
We will be learning about our needs and wants and identifying examples of each!

Math

In Math this week, we will be learning all about nonstandard measurement! We will learn how to use nonstandard tools (like paperclips, cubes, tiles, etc) to measure and compare. We will learn measurement words like longer and shorter and heavier and lighter.

Science

In science, we will be learning about animal habitats! We learned last week that animals need air, food, water, and shelter to survive. We are excited to learn about how their habitats help them meet all of their needs!!

Terrific Tiny Texans:

We are so proud of these students for going above and beyond this week to show great citizenship qualities and kindness at TCE! Tiny Texans get to be the line leader for our class each week and show us how to be a good example to others! Here are this weeks Tiny Texans:
K1: ALL DONE

Kindergarten - 2nd grade Author Visit

Author and former CISD Educator, Julie Wolf, will be visiting our TCE Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classes on Monday, May 6!  We are looking forward to this special opportunity to have the author read aloud one of her books, show us how she became a published author, and share fun activities related to her stories.  Families are welcome to purchase their own copies of Julie Wolf's book from her website or Amazon. If you would like the author to autograph the book, please have your child bring the book to Mrs. Keene-Carlson (TCE Librarian) before the date of Ms. Wolf's visit so that she can prepare it for her to sign.

Kindergarten Field Trip

On May 7th, we will be going on our Kindergarten Field Trip to the Coppell Life Safety Park and the Coppell Biodiversity Center. We are so excited about this learning opportunity! Please return your child's lime green permission slip and $5 bus fee as soon as possible. If you need another one, please let your child's teacher know.

If you wish to be a chaperone on this trip, be sure you have let your child's teacher know by filling out the chaperone paper, and by completing a background check HERE! You cannot go on our field trip if you haven't filled this form out.

Kindergarten Muffins for Mom

On Friday morning, May 10th the kindergarten teachers and students would like to invite all MOM's to come and join us for "muffins" and fruit in the kindergarten classrooms.
We will have a short presentation, some gifts for our moms, and some treats!
Muffins for Mom will be from 8:00 - 8:45 (BYOC bring your own coffee) :)
If a mom is not available please send anyone to join your child!
We are happy to have them!

Spring Conferences

It is hard to believe that we are already in our last nine weeks of the school year. Time has flown by so quickly with these amazing learners!

The district is unable to set aside a day for spring parent / teacher conferences, but we are happy to make time to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You recently received your learner's third nine weeks report card, which provided you with an update on how your learner is doing in class. We will also be sending home your learner's end of year assessment summary sheet; along with a summer packet of resources and ways to support your learner over the break. The assessment summary sheet will show you their current levels in both Language Arts and Math as well as the benchmark. This will show you your students growth and progress throughout the school year!

If you would like to discuss any questions or concerns regarding your learner and would like a conference (via email, phone or face-to-face) please email your child's homeroom teacher. What a JOY it has been to have these learners this year!

*We are unable to discuss 1st grade class placements for next school year. Please keep questions related to your learner's academic and emotional growth from the 2018-2019 school year.*
