What we’re
Workin’ on this week..
Language Arts / Social Studies
This week we will begin an author study on Author and Illustrator, Jan Brett! She has written many famous children's books and is an amazing artist as well! We will also pick back up in our journals and really work on extending our writing! Everyone is doing great! We will learn one new word this week, "my" and review the words we have already learned too! We are almost at 20 words!
Math
This week we will be working on learning about personal financial literacy! We will be learning all about needs vs. wants, goods and services, earning money, saving money and receiving money as a gift. We will be challenging learners to think of things they are good at that they could provide as a way of earning money. (We will be making a poster to show that we know how we can earn money).
As we talk about needs vs. wants, we will be talking about some of the things that are needed around the world and brainstorming how even though we may be little, how we could help out!

Extending your Learning at Home:
Thank you to those who have sent in a video counting in a different language! We hope to get more videos in!! Click on the hotspot circle links on the map below!
If you would still like to participate in our counting challenge, have your mom or dad tape you and send it to either Mrs. McKinney or Mrs. Brehm. Please include the region of where your language is from, as we are making a link to that place in the world!
***Example: Hi my name is _______. I am going to count to 10 in Chinese. (Then you would count slowly so others will be able to learn from you!)
We cannot wait to get in the videos, put them on our world map and learn from you!

Science
We are finishing up our digital storybooks about how plants are affected through the seasons. When we are finished we will share our final draft with you all!
After we finish our research project, we will be studying trees. We will be looking at all the parts of a tree and how they differ from other plants, doing leaf rubbings and learning the difference between evergreen and deciduous

I cannot wait for everyone to see the final outcome!

If you are interested in volunteering at all this year, please click on the link below to fill out the 2016-2017 volunteer background check. Everyone that volunteers must have a completed background check. Once you have done it, it is good for the entire year! It only takes a few minuets!
